AVB confirms Mata interest.

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas rules out signing Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata. Spurs did enquire about the possibility of signing Mata, but Villas-Boas concedes there is no chance that the Blues will offload one of their players to a rival club.
"First, Chelsea wouldn't sell to Tottenham in any way or form, as they think that we are title contenders," he said. "Mata is a great, great player - player of the season last season - very, very important player for Chelsea.
"They're just not going to strengthen another team that, in their opinion, are rivals for the title."

So on the plus side...if they sell to Arsenal it would imply that Jose sees no threat of them challenging of the title :)

Also why don't we hold any sway...when Mourinho admitted wanting Rooney, press got hold of it and helped escalate matters quickly...press seem to have made very little of these AVB comments?

Gotta love AVB.

First he implies chavski are thieves for stealing Willian, and now he fronts up to Jose suggesting they consider us genuine contenders.

Now we just need him to give an interview to Matthew "Roman is a crook" Syed explaining in forensic detail how Abramovich stole his money from the Russian people.

They will never sell anyone to us in a million years. For any price.

But this tells me we are after another marquee signing. Doesn't Mata play on the right wing? Bye Lennon then. We are obviously hunting to fill that space.

Exactly. We'll never get Mata, but if true, this shows we're looking to spend big once more.

If we're going to bid 35m Euros for Mata, maybe we are in for guys like Griezemann/Draxler. At least to kick the tires I bet. I just don't think Chelsea would ever sell him to us, especially when they see what we've done already in the market.

We're wasting our time, especially by offering £30m. Would have to be at least £45m for them to even consider. And even then they don't exactly need the money do they? If they want to sell they'll let him go or loan him abroad and there'd be plenty of suitors.

Another player who'd make me shit in my pants if we signed him. Just a shame that he'll never pull on a Spurs shirt, the glorious ginger bastard.
