We can confirm that Villarreal has exercised the option to sign Juan Foyth on a permanent basis.

The Argentina defender joined us in August, 2017 from Estudiantes and went on to make 32 appearances, scoring once.

Juan moved on loan to Villarreal in September, 2020 and made 32 appearances in total for the La Liga side last season, including their Europa League final win against Manchester United.

A huge mistake to give them that option. All the best to him. Really shortsighted on our part

Played the same amount of games for them in one year as he did for us in 3. He was a rock in the final.

What a bizarre decision. He made some rash decisions, but nothing a little coaching wouldn't solve. I thought he was a shoe in for a first team spot. Would have made an excellent DCM imo. Always looking to get the ball forwards. Was good at RB too.
Strange one.

Another one on a long list... We are a laughing stock for this. 14 million apparently. Truely laughable.

I'm sure he will be very good for Villarreal, but I have a suspicion that, like Kieran Trippier, he is better suited to be a defensive star in Spanish football than to huff and puff in English football.

So the club, presumably a decision of the coach at the time, agreed a loan with permanent option.

Coach gets sacked in the meantime and we lose a player from the weakest area of our squad. Now I'm not saying he would've been the answer going forward but the new coach, whomever that turns out to be, might have been able to work with him especially as his confidence would be higher than when he left.

This is a by-product of employing Mourinho; a man who has little interest in improving young players.

Good luck to Foyth, hope he goes on to have a great career. He's probably very happy to continue there rather than come back to the unknown.

Another Daniel Levy masterclass ?

Looks like we're about to go into the Euros without a manager as well. What a mess!

We qualified for the Euros? Shit I must have missed that! Not a bad result for a club like us  :X3: :cautious:

Another young player whose development was stunted by Poch not loaning him out or playing him. He's 23 and has played less than 50 professional league games in his entire career.

Probably right for him to leave now but disappointed that we didn't develop him better.

Disappointing that we didn't make more of his talents and he was probably worth a few mil more than that.

BUT.... **searches for positives, finds one**

At least it's churn. Money in the bank. He was wasting away for us and it's the first of the 'sell to buy' squad players to go.

Hopefully we aren't waiting all summer for the exit of the rest....:

Lamela
Aurier
Winks
Dier
Sissoko

Must be 45m in that lot surely

Another?? Who else did Pochettino stunt in your opinion because I'm struggling to think of anyone.

Liked the boy
14 million is a steal.
Convinced he would have trained on.
Had some exciting elements
apart from the mistakes
to his game.
Young enough to be coached, Ledley,
as a defender (24)
KWP and now Juan Foyth.
Still we made a profit ((6 million)
So mustn't grumble.

I could be wrong but I think sometimes when a player is at a club too long having never played they'll need a fresh start.

It didn't work out for him with us, we have moved him on.

It's amazing people want us to sell the deadwood... But not this one or that one...

Glad he has found a team where he can get games

Good luck to him, I liked him but always likely to lose the ball through trying to overplay in dangerous areas. Worked well 4 times out of 5 but that mistake the 5th time is always likely to cost you a goal due to where he plays on the pitch.

Was targeted by teams as they knew he had a mistake in him and judging by the Argentina game on Wednesday where he tried to dribble out of defence in the 94th min while 2-1 up shows that he hasn't leant any lessons on that side. There's a time and a place, sometimes it's ok to boot it into row z
