I’m sure most are happy to be pursuing Koundé. I’ve got to say I’m not convinced. His style of play is to constantly dribble up the pitch like some sort of box to box centre back. I reckon if he does that in the prem we’ll be terribly exposed.

maybe I’m missing something - like stats. Maybe he’ll be amazing? But watching clips of him I just dont buy it. I don’t get the attraction of a CB who spends most of his time in the opposition penalty area?

Don’t believe he’s worth £60-70m and I’ll be disappointed if we spend that on him when we could’ve gone for Konsa.

Disagree there mate. He looks utterly composed in every area of the field. We need a ball player CB who is prepared the break the press and release the ball at the right time. And if he does find himself on the end of a return pass when in the box, he looks composed enough to finish or find another pass.

Yes please Fab!

Puyol 5 ft 10, Baresi 5 ft 9, Dier 6 ft 2, sanchez 6 ft 3, it really counts for little

It’s not quite as simple as that though is it. Yes you can have very good defenders under six foot, but that doesn’t necessarily translate to a good central defensive partnership in the premier league.

I get why people have concerns about having two shortish centre backs. But we do still have Rodon who is very good in the air.

This is only one game but here's a quick succession of him winning a variety of headers against a taller opponent. Height doesn't automatically make you a good header of the ball.

Heading isn’t the only advantage of being big and tall. Physicality is quite important in the premier league.

Lloris, Tomiyasu, Romero, Kounde, Regullion, Hojbjerg, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Son, Bergwijn, Kane

Gollini, Doherty, Rodon, Tanganga, Davies, Skipp, John, Dele, Sessegnon, Gil, Scarlett

Overall would most be reasonably happy with this or are we still any couple of realistic players short?

Loving that, but still 1 decent proven striker for me. Ings ideally.

If we played a back 3 with Kounde, Romero, and Rodon / Tamiyasu, there’s plenty of height in it. English football isn’t the long ball battering ram game it was 15, 10 or even 5 years ago. Man City and Liverpool have midget forwards who press high and are quick. How many big, target man CFs are there in the PL? Antonio at West Ham (who Dier usually has in his pocket) and the Burnley lads. That’s about it. Why would anyone want a back line of giants who are not composed on the ball?

Yeah, good point. But there’s many defenders who are big and tall that don’t know how to effectively use their bodies to their advantage

Two of the best Ive seen in the air were Tim Cahill & Heidar Helguson. Both short but incredible springs, similar to Kounde.

Surely it shouldn't take long for Kounde to find out if Real Madrid and PSG are interested in signing him. Just get a no from them and join Spurs already. It doesn't take long for me to get rejected by a hot girl for example. Sometimes they just say fuck off before I even open my mouth.

Yeah there are plenty of those, but just because cloggers like Phil Jones exist, doesn’t mean that height isn’t an important attribute. I do worry that set pieces could be a weakness in our side if we have too many short players. No matter how good they are at leaping etc.

If they are good at leaping then surely they are more useful in the air than lumps like Sissoko, Sanchez, Dier who barely challenge. I agree that set pieces is a weakness for us but having four or five 6ft 5 lumps doesnt mean you will be stronger. Italy are absolutely amazing at defending set pieces and Bonucci is their tallest operator at about 6ft 1/2.

Like I already said, just because you can name a few tall people who aren’t very good defenders, doesn’t mean that someone with height and ability wouldn’t have an advantage.
