I haven’t watched much of Romero, but I’ve seen quite a bit of Kounde and his anticipation is top notch and I’ve never thought to myself his ability to defend aerially was poor.

As a comparison I think there’s taller players, like our own Dier and Sanchez who I believe are quite poor aerially.

Not to mention Torres and Laporte during the Euros who despite being 6'3" were targeted and embarrassed over the top over and over again. It's not all about length (of your body), it's what you do with it.

Echoing what others have said in here, but at 5ft 10” can we really see him in a CB pairing? Would feel a little more comfortable in a back 3.

This is absolutely spot on. And someone can correct me but I'm told Milenkovic actually isnt very good in the air for 6ft 4.

despite the difference in height there’s really not much in it between kounde and milenkovic in terms of aerial duels won per 90, Milenkovic 3.47 Kounde 3.50, both in the mid 80th percentile for defenders in the top 5 leagues, so they’re both pretty good. Just goes to show height isn’t everything as previous posters have pointed out

Edit: For anyone interested, Romero is at 4.06, 94th percentile, Pau Torres as some have mentioned is poor in the air despite being taller, at 1.60 per 90, 10th percentile.

Exactly. Lucas Moura would probably beat some of our defenders in the air.

However cant say I'm keen on Kounde now. Understand CL football and wanting Madrid. But if one of these clubs come calling next summer we know he isnt sticking around. No thanks.

A slight bit more context is required imo when looking at aerial stats. I prefer to look at % duels won. It’s ok to say player x won 3 a game on average, but if they lose 10 a game, the 3 they win isn’t very impressive.

Last season=

Milenkovic 77% duels won
Kounde 63.8% duels won

Career Stats =

Milenkovic 72.2% duels won
Kounde 64.6% duels won

This is not a Milenkovic endorsement over Kounde, just adding in more context.

I’m sure that statement applies to pretty much every player.

In fact, both of your statements apply to pretty much every player. ?

Hooray...Hooray.

Some posts about vertical challenges. All backed up with the 'Moura can leap well'

Missed these feckers for about 5 days. Good to see them back once more. :D

So we'll sell him and pay off the stadium debt with what we'll charge them.

Oh look we are back to page 45 with discussions over his height or lack of again

Funny thing being...that handsome sod @cider spurs even provided a thread 'Tall Stories' for this very topic. :D

Of course, each to their own, but personally this height thing gets a bit, well, meh for me.

Could have 4 footers for all I care, means shit all if the opposing team can't cross or take a corner a la Spurs.

Nah, give me the old what size shoe does he take any day of the week.

Knowing those pricks they’ll sign him today and get him to parade the CL trophy before the game tonight. Just glad there’s no away fans there to have to witness it.

Having watched last season where taller players such as Dier, Toby and Sissoko displayed an uncanny ability to jump without actually leaving the ground, your starting height is just a part of the equation. Athletic ability and being able to read the game can make up for a lack of inches, at least I keep telling myself that.

Oh what you mean like bale , Berba, modric , carrick
then act like children and cry when he wants to leave calling them judass

Yes, having a player that improves us and then selling him for a large fee certainly is stupid!

'Arry famously had to teach Crouchy how to jump, so sometimes tall players are terrible in aerial duals because they're not used to needing to jump earlier in their career, and don't pick up the skill naturally
