As back up for our new Numero Uno maybe?

Jussi Jaaskelainen's future will be resolved shortly, his agent has confirmed, although he will almost certainly not be at Bolton.

The Finland shot-stopper has been at The Reebok Stadium for 11 years, playing over 300 times for The Trotters.

However, Jaaskelainen is now set to depart the club when his contract expires this summer, and his representative Peter Harrison has confirmed that Bolton have shown little interest in securing his future.

"We have had one round of talks with Bolton and that was some 12 months ago, since then we have heard nothing," Harrison told skysports.com.

Interest

Now a host of clubs are believed to be showing an interest with Middlesbrough the latest side strongly linked.

Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham all have a long-standing interest in the Finn, although clubs from Spain, Italy and Germany are also attracted by the promise of landing him as a free agent.

I'd say go for it - We could sign Jussi & baby schmuckel from City & let them fight it out.

But maybe the club have other plans & maybe we can do better.

I'm a bit baffled by this. Why?

Jääska seems a pretty good idea to me, not least because he's EPL tried and tested—although that's maybe not as much a consideration for a keeper as it is for an outsider.

But whoever we sign, let's get a solid back line in front of him. No matter how good a keeper we have, if Chimbonda (to name just the worst recent offender) keeps making gaffes it's going to put him under unnecessary pressure.

Dont think Jussi is the answer although he'd be a very decent No2 but playing for Tottenham each week under the spotlight and turning out for Bolton (no disrespect) are two very different things.

He's always done a solid job but I dont think he commands his box or comes off his line particularly well which is what a top class No1 does.

I'd love us to sign Jussi as number one. He's an alright goalkeeper who doesn't make massive blunders. Exactly what I think we need.

I havn't seen him much this season but the reports generally havn't been very complimentary. I think there may be better available and as people have said he wouldn't come here to sit on the bench.

Are Lehmann or Almunia good enough? I've seen Reina questioned, too.

Lehmann (2 seasons ago) and Reina unquestionably YES, probably Almunia too. In my opinion they all read the game well and make the right decisions more often than not and they come off their line and command there boxes pretty well as well as making great saves at times.

End of the day like every position it's all about confidence.

Well, two years ago Robbo looked like a top four keeper.

On balance, I think I'd prefer a very good if not quite top-drawer keeper behind a really solid back line to a top-drawer one behind an iffy back line. Of course the ideal is Arsenal c. 1998!

Kirkland and a number 2 Schmeichel both for about 9 mil

Too many question marks over Kirkland's fitness for me. And again, why this enthusiasm for Schmeichel Jr? To be fair, I thought he looked promising at the start of the season, but my brother-in-law and his sons (all ST holders at the Taxpayers' Gift to Manchester City Stadium) have told me they didn't think he was that much cop, and absolutely not a patch on Joe Hart.

We've actually been linked with Brezovan, Swindon's keeper. Given that Gus will know all about him, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if he appeared as our No. 2. I doubt that anyone on SC has seen him, though.

i like the look of the new bolton keeper, looks very solid. Can't remember his name right now but he's of middle eastern origin.

Ali Al-Habsi. He's from Oman, actually AFAIK he's Oman's only real star.

Came to Bolton from Lyn in Norway (Mikel's club) where he was regarded as the best keeper in the league.

I wouldn't mind taking a look at him but he didn't play competitively for nearly two years before Jaaskilainen got injured recently, which suggests that Bolton see Jaaska as the better keeper.

I would try to get Ben Foster and kep Robbo. Perhaps genuine competition for his place might give him a kick up the backside.
