Just home from the game, thought I would give my plusses and minuses from what I saw....

Gomes... I was looking forward to seeig him, and he did not disappoint. He was helpless with the goal, but made a few good saves, and one great save, distribution excellent. PLUS

Ekotto... well, blow me, man of the match by a mile !!! Thought he was Bostock at first, as he was on the other side of the park, but he was really quick, sharp in the tackle, and passed the ball superbly... PLUS

Gunter, shakey start, not bad thereafter.... will give him plenty of time, as he is still very young.

Woodie, solid as usual

Dawson, not bad...

Jenas, disappointing... gave the ball away cheaply, did not tackle, lacked skill.... MINUS

Huddlestone... I like the lad, but it seems no matter how much weight he looses, he still looks slow and lacking mobility... will give him more time... MINUS

Lennon... the Hercules fans sitting around me kept asking "who is number 7", as Lennon looked sharp and very quick tonight, was constantly fouled, looked good... PLUS

Dos Santos... first time I had seen him, skillful, but didn't manage to really get past his full back... will give him more time....

Berbatov... did not expect him to play to be honest... some nice touches, played most of the time in midfield, looked more disinterested than usual... hope he stays of course..

Darren Bent... was really hoping to see him step up to the plate tonight, but he didn't, missed a sitter tonight, very disappointing performance considering his massive transfer fee. MINUS

Zokora... looked sharp and quick when he came on, looks a better bet to play alongside Modric in my opinion.. PLUS

O'Hara... nothing special tonight...

Bostok, lost the ball the few times he had it, might have been nervous, has plenty of time.

KING!!! Did not play again.. why? is he still injured? we need him desperately.... HUGE MINUS

If we have Hutton, King, Modric, Keane, Bentley and Bale in the side come first game of the season, I think we will do very well, but nobody seems to know who will come and go over the next few weeks. My starting 11 as it stands, with no further players coming or going:

Gomes, Hutton, King, Woodgate, Ekotto, Bale, Lennon, Zokora, Modric, Keane, berbatov

With further expected transfers:

Gomes, Hutton, King, Woodgate, Ekotto, Bale, Bentley, Zokora, Modric, Villa, Arshavin.

Another lad came on at left back

Thanks for that dude.

BAE can be tremendous. I hope he can re-emerge now from the constant injury problems. Shame JJ cant seem to control the ball sometimes. No way can that level of football be tollerated in the middle of the park. Modric will not appreciate that at all. Really want Bent to get confident too.

BAE was amazing tonight, didn't know he could play that well! Even my mate who came along for the crack, 'Boro fan, said he was our man of the match, by a mile.... very pleasing

i've always said that ekotto has the potential to be a top player. all he needs to do is work on his mentality.

ekotto is a ball watcher and that is something that can't be coached out of him unfortunately.

so we have hardly seen any off ekotto in the last 2 seasons as he had been injured most of it, loyalyid then watches a game and thought ekotto was great but some how you know ekotto is a ball watcher. hmmm Interesting

I'm really looking forward to seeing BAE back in the team. I thought he had a hell of a lot of potential going forwards, but perhaps lacked positional awareness for whatever reason. Perhaps a long period off the pitch has given him time to settle a bit more.

Funny that, because Bent scored and almost created one.

Which is more than Berbatov.

so from that formation ekotto and dos santos played on the right, and gunter and lennon on the left? wouldve thought it was the other way round. interesting.

Hi Rabs - I suspect it was other way round - some people start from the left - something I've never understood - but it happens :)

It was only my observations from last night, it's the start of a new season, with a new manager, I think all of the players get a brand new start, don't you agree. I was delighted to see the boy play so well last night :)

Wasn't blaming anyone, just saying he didn't do much last night... nobody would be happier than me to see the lad banging in the goals, which he most cetainly is capable of... one ball came to him, completely unmarked, 5 yards out, swung a boot at the ball, and he miskicked completely, injuring himself, think the boy is lacking confidence at the moment, that's all:eek:mg:
