Just one change

If you could make just one change to the rules of football, what would it be (yeah, the obvious one would be for Tottenham to always get a 4 goal start, but let's try and be serious...)

Personally, I'd like to see a law introduced which would prevent any substitutions after 90 minutes. I hate the idea of managers who are winning the games using injury time to chuck on a few subs with a view to wasting the few minutes which are left. That practice is as good as cheating the paying customers, and I wish it would stop.

That FFP actually always punished those falling foul of the rules by handing out serious points deductions (not suspended) as opposed to insignificant fines that hardly impact the mega rich clubs in any way.

I'd change the offside law so if you are offside when the intended pass is played you are offside, regardless of whether a defender touches it on the way or not, as per the Mbappe goal this week.

It's not a big change tbh, I'm sure I can come up with something even better given time.

Interesting idea, but how would play resume when the ball crossed the touchline?

.

I'm open to a number of possibilities:
  1. It doesn't - game over
  2. There is no touchline - street rules
  3. A big, beautiful, bouncy wall
  4. Indirect free kick from the spot the ball crossed or any distance behind, to be taken quickly - inside 5 seconds. Taking it from a position in advance of the spot or longer than 5 seconds and possession reverts to the opposition as per a foul throw.

Was going to say the same.

How the offside law has changed to allow goals like that is just weird.

51% fan ownership with a salary cap with no loopholes

I like the idea but how? It's obviously not financially possible.

Maybe just representation, but then you read some of the stuff on here and other places and it would be worse than we have now.

Independant timekeeper so it's out of the ref's hands (like they have in rugby) so much timewasting goes unpunished

I’d like to see an Ice Hockey style fight to be allowed. Not a free for all but you’re allowed one tear up per game. No more than say 5 mins and then restart the game. If a player is injured during a fight you’re not allowed to sub them off so extra incentive to do damage.

Penalise players for not being 10 yards at free kicks. I’m sick to death of opposition players standing on the ball to slow free kicks down or blocking a potential quick kick. In most cases the attacking team is forced to pass back as there is a player blocking a forward pass. The refs seem to ignore it.

I know I shouldn't be admitting to this, but I'm pretty sick of players squaring up to each other, putting their foreheads together like angry bulls or shoving each other in the chest. It's about time somebody actually klunked somebody else.

Anyone remember the classic spat between Norman 'Bites Yer Legs' Hunter and Franny Lee? Ah, those were the days!

My brother said he wants 'Off-Side' to only count inside the penalty area.

Hmm.

Implement effective playing time and shorten the halves to 30 or 35 minutes. With independent timekeepers as you say.

10 minute sin bin for «professional» counter attack preventing fouls. To spice it up, opposition captain gets to choose which outfield player gets gets binned. Should work fine in sundy league....
