StartingPrice - thanks for bringing back my faith in Spurs fans.

The double standards on this site were beginning to get me down to the point of not posting.

Keane said: “I would like to place on record my thanks to the board, players and fans of Tottenham for the past six years, which were the best and most enjoyable of my career to date. I would specifically like to thank chairman Daniel Levy for understanding that, as a fan, joining Liverpool is a lifelong dream of mine and one I couldn’t let pass me by.”

All I could find...:)

Did anyone else see the interview on SpursTV when Robbie re-signed, talking about his love for the club and that he wouldn't have left Liverpool for anywhere else? Did anyone here the rumour about what happened when Robbie came back in the Liverpool team to play us at home?

No? Thought not...

Then that makes you just as bad, and childish as them.

They called me a name so i will call him one back....

Does it! I suggest you go back and read my posts again, because I have said several times that I am not attacking JD, just exposing the hypocritically contrasting treatments both players are receiving. JD is seen through rose-tinted glasses, Keano is seen through black-tinted glasses (er, wouldn't that be sun-glasses:grin:). It is an academic exercise.

For the record, I can actually understand when a player like JD isn't getting game time he might want to go somewhere where is gonna get a game (especially under his ond mentor, 'Arry), even if it is seen as something of a step-down in level, and I can even empathise with it. I thought I had made this very clear in my posts. And, whereas he wouldn't be the first player to run his contract down and ever on a free (and our main beef with Scab Poodle is that he encouraged the club to believe he was gonna sign, while all of the time conspiring to go to our arch rivals for free - and by-the-by denying a large transfer fee to the club who nurtured him, and he claimed to support), it is impossible for us to know what he wouldn't have done if he hadn't been sold.

But I have explained in great detail why I don't think Keano 'stabbed us in the back' (as some fans claim). I think it is hypocritical, and I am making an academic exercise to show that by applying the same standard in interpreeting both transfers (i.e. seein the sinister to the Nth degree), JD can appear less than the angleic innocent some fans are painting him as.

Truly if you do not have the sophistication to see this as an academic exercise to, maybe, get those fans of Keano's back (because I am most definitely telling you it was affecting his morale - and therefore the morale of the whole team), then don't read posts by posters who have that level of sophistication as you will only misinterpret them.

Tit-for-tat name calling:roll:

Michey, if that was directed at the use of smileys, then it's a fair cop!! i used to have nothing but disdain for them but i've been worn down by other people. maybe i ought to rediscover the curmudgeon in me

if it's for my reaction to the boyhood club bollocks, then it's unwarranted. i think anyone who swallows that horseshit needs to grow up and wise up

why so bothered by this? All footballers are the same. Defoe said he loved us but wouldn't sign a new contract and this started before his cry-story involving Ramos and Comolli. Keane wanted to try his luck for Pool, Sheringham went to manure and came back.....etc, etc, etc...

Let it go

But I am specifically addressing those fans in an academic exercise. If you ain't one of them why are you (over)reacting to anyone who dares to suggest a less than rose-tined interpretation to JD:shrug:

the bit in bold - correct, that is exactly what happened. and it hurt that he wanted to do that.

you're agreeing with me though that it was bullshit. defoe was behind keane and berba and we also had bent by the this time IIRC as a newer big money signing. it's a strange perspective from which he can be seen to have screwed us over. keane was first choice and acting captain when he left. it was also such a surprise that levy would have had no contingency plan ready - i'm sure his plans going forward were built around keane.

anyway, you're wrong if you think i dislike keane as a result. he has way too much credit with me. but i do resent being lied to, by anyone in any aspect of my life. and coming from my favourite footballer ever, possibly the only footballer i've ever felt a special personal connection to, yeah i resent that. and a lie that insults the intelligence too

addendum: you ask "why so bothered by this?"
it is only because it was keane. i can understand why older fans could easily forget about it, they've seen legends come and go and had many heros. i've never had another hero at spurs like keane.

also i should say, i welcomed him back with open arms, was delighted by his return and immediately accepted him 100%. and there is no hurt resulting form the move to celtic. i really hope he does well there and i'm going to start keeping an eye on SPL results now. when robbie went to liverpool i didn't want him to score or succeed at all

This is an attitude I have no problem with - especially the bit in bold.

For the record, I was quite 'hurt' when Keano went to the Pool, too.

I think the statements highlight how differnt the circumstances were when both players left the club.

Personally I never wanted Keane back, I thought he was over rated and would flop at Liverpool and he did. I didn't want him back, largely because of the way he left and the effect both his and Berbatov's move had on the start of our season last year (one that could easily have seen us relegated) but mostly because I thought he wasn't worth signing.

However, what I will say is..... In the Jan 09 transfer window we were fighting for our lives, the Comolli/Ramos team can completely depleted our squad and we were staring relegation in the face.

Bent, Pav and Campbell were clearly not enough to save us so we brought in Defoe. The real problem was Defoe soon got injuried so we found ourselves needing another striker desperately.

Wheter or not Keane was the best option avalible I don't know, I assume it was the easiest what with Liverpool owing money for his transfer and their willingness to cut their losses, personally I never wanted him back but was aware of our need to replace the injuried Defoe.

Keane came in and played his part in keeping us up. This is not to be underestimated.... forgive but don't forget and all that. Yes he screwed us over in the first place, but he also played a (fairly sizable) role in saving us, games like Stoke at the Lane were key to survival at the time and he and Modric were key players.

So while personally I would happily us not see him in a Spurs shirt again, as I think we need better...if/as/when he plays for us again I will support him and want him to do well as much as any other player who represents our club.

I hope he does well for Celtic, it will either mean we can sell him on for more money or he can benefit our club in someway. If he flops there it will only result in writing sums off an asset owned by our club.

My own opinion is it's time to let the bitterness go, yea I (and most) perfer Defoe and feel Keane's time at the Lane has run its course, but I think the constant bitterness towards him should be released. I'd never boo the team or a player in our team and I think we should all be hoping he tears the scottish league a new one as failing to do so can only be determental to our club (and its the club that really matters not the componets wearing the shirts)

Sums up my thoughts almost 100%. Rep for you sir.

The constant use of smilies is cringeworthy.
