Fergie spent about six seasons trying to find an adequate successor to Schmeichel; from memory, he signed Talbi, Barthez, Bosnich (twice), van den Gouw, Goram, Carroll and Howard, not necessarily in that particular order. And some Spanish bloke whose name I can't remember, but who arrived with quite a bit of hoopla but hardly played. There may have been one or two others. So, although he has signed flops in most positions, it would appear he has had a particular problem in signing keepers.

Ricardo? Yeah, well Barthez was a regular for a few seasons so I wouldn't put him in the same bracket as the others.

That's the boy. He was supposed to provide some competition for Barthez, but didn't.

As I recall, Barthez had a good first season, but got increasingly eccentric after that; the novelty of having your keeper performing Atouba-style in his own area soon wears off, I imagine. You got a mixture of unbelievable saves and unbelievable blunders, only more and more of the latter as time went on.

Let's stop worrying about who Fergie may or may not sign.

It annoys me when we're linked with a player and to justify us buying him and to demonstrate how great he is people say "apparantly Fergie wants him at Man U!"

If he really wanted all these players we'd never sign any of them... OK, maybe Berbs.

How about we just watch the player rather than watching out for which managers are linked by the ever reliable press! Remember how many players we're falsely linked with!

Kameni is not the answer to our goalkeeping question.

I think the point being made, in a somewhat roundabout way, is not that we should worry about Fergie poaching him, but that signing keepers is an even more imprecise science than signing strikers, even for the experts.

he is a england u-21 keeper, but it's currently joe hart who is the number 1

if the ITKs are to be believed then apparently Alnwick isn't all that and probably won't make it at spurs. Which would be backed up by the fact that he was keen to stay at Leicester (you would've thought with the current keeper crisis at Spurs, he'd be eager to come back).

Tim Howard also looked really good after about a year or so, and then somehow managed to lose his job to the current backup for Derby. I actually really rate Howard, and he's really looked impressive every time I see him for Everton. He's certainly much better than what we've got.

Given? don't make me larf

we already have 2 good cb who can hardly get fit enough to play, let alone getting a new first choice keeper who can only play 45 mins before being out for 10 games.

No thank you.

Kirkland is overrated.

I dont like Kameni style goalkeepers, they cock up when you least want them to.

Personlly I think there is little point in replacing Robbo unless we go for someone top class. Amelia is meant to be good but Ive never seen him actualy play.

And no racism intended...but please dont let us get an African goalie
