I would love to know why we are happy to ignore the loan market. Doesn't mean we have to sign a nutcase for 5 months, but even if we did sign someone who wasn't quite the right fit, how much damage can a player conceivably do to team morale in 5 months? Even Ade was successful during his loan spell.

If at the end of the season Poch wants rid then fine.

It's all about risk and the risk of a loan signing upsetting the system or team spirit is far lower than the risk of Kane getting injured or burnt out.

How do you know we're happy to ignore the loan market mate?

Well of course I don't know for sure, but according to the latest ITK that is the message. Obviously I hope that's not the case as I think it's madness.

Ah ok, hadn't seen that ITK.

I do think bringing in another forward is essential but at the same time it still needs to be somebody Poch wants, ideally anyway.

I agree with not spending loads of money unless Poch thinks long term they are the right player, but as I said I can't believe there isn't a player in world football who we could loan that Poch thinks would provide cover for Kane.

Seems to me we have a real opportunity to make CL with Chelsea and Utd stuttering. An injury to Kane would be massively detrimental IMO. If we're serious about making it to the top table we have to grasp these kind of opportunities. Isn't football all about taking your chances?

Yep, you have to make things happen, not just hope that everything works out fine.

So which players could we realistically get? We'd need them to fit the system, probably able to play in multiple positions, within our wage structure, happy to go in Jan (and their club happy to lose them in Jan) and happy to fight it out with Harry for the strikers position.

I don't play Football Manager but I'm sure some of you do - who should we be targeting for a January move?

Eidur Gudjohnsen did a fine job for us the first time we came fourth, for example.

Yep, that Stoke away game really springs to mind - when him and Niko combined brillantly, didn't Niko dummy it and Eidur thumped it in,,,sweet goal that was.

Maybe Poch wants someone to come in and embrace his philosophy, put it this way if you're a loanee you're hardly going to be pressing and running around like a nut case especially if you're only there for a few months.

I think you are missing the point, @TH1239 didn't say buy someone who was going to disrupt harmony. He said you have to look at buying quality and that costs money. However with an expanding revenue base why would you not ensure that you are maintaining parity with the PL. You cant rely on your academy for every type of player you need. Not every player worth 20m plus is a c**t mind you.

You can just see the standard of the PL this season. It has risen dramatically and even the lesser clubs are doing well because of increased expenditure. This is the real reason for the changing paradigm in the PL, not necessarily the poor form of the Sky 4.

I would argue with this part of your post. I think the standard has dropped quite a lot over the last few years. Hence our English teams poor performances in European games

Completely agree. If we buy no back up this January, it's got nothing to do with Levy not wanting to spend money, it's got nothing to do with saving for the stadium.

It's got everything to do with Poch wanting the right player that fits what he is trying to do. If we don;t get one, that will be the reason.

Even when we beat Chelsea at home during the run in he came off the bench for the last 20 mins or so and was instrumental in us seeing the game out.

Yeah remember, that was a really tidy contribution that was.

Unless you are angling for a permanent move. Ade was very motivated while he was on loan.

Would be quite happy for us to get Benteke.

Would come with a lot to prove to dislodge Kane (or prove that he could form a partnership) and we have the Belgian thing going on.

As long as the dippers would take a hit on him.

(from today's goat ITK)
