I assume the idea is to encourage teams to develop their own youth rather than plunder them from other clubs. A bit harsh though on a lad like Ceballos who had been given the heave-ho by his previous club.

Tim Sherwood's comments on the game from the OS:

"Yago and Cristian are not just 'nice' footballers, they affect football matches and that's what it's all about," said Tim, our Technical Co-Ordinator.
"They showed real quality and that’s what we’ve seen from them in training.
"They are technically excellent players and scoring two goals each in their first match in England, we can’t ask for more than that."

Tim was pleased with the whole team's performance.
"Will Ekong did well, he hasn’t played a lot of football but will now continue to play and the two younger lads who came on in the second half, Kevin Stewart and Jack Barthram, they are great learners, they absorb information," he added.
"The likes of Tom Carroll and Harry Kane, they have to keep ticking over and doing things correctly and it was about fitness for John Bostock, Dean Parrett and Cameron Lancaster, all just back from injury.
"I say it time and time again, even though we don’t lose too many, it’s not about results. We weren't fazed when we went 2-0 down. It's about trying to do the right things."

Can't say I have high hopes for him given he's 21 and has yet to play a proper senior game in his career:

2008 Barcelona B 1 (1)

2008 Juventus 0 (0)

2009 Bari (loan) 0 (0)

2010–2011 → Villarreal B (loan) 36 (11)

2011– → Tottenham Hotspur (loan) 0 (0)

I hope to be proved wrong but I can't help but think that someone would have given him a chance by now if he had what it takes.

In spain most of the youth players play for the b teams until they are ready to go in to the first team, xavi was 20 til he stopped playing for barcelona B, Pedro was 22, puyol was 22 and thiago 21 this season

Ok fair enough but if he was truly impressive I don't see why Villareal wouldn't have wanted him for their first team.

He was villareal B best player last season but they were broke at the time and had to sell one player to make room for signings and they didn't sell cazorla until falque had gone back
Thanks a lot to those who posted match reports and videos. From a distance Ceballos looks so much like Messi!

I find it unbelievable that a kid as talented as him would be written off at age 18/19 for being too lightweight. For a start, people naturally "fill out" at completely different ages. Some when they're 15, some when they're 30, so there's plenty of time for those shoulders to broaden a bit, but even if they don't, with dedicated gym work and diet you can make such a difference to physical bulk and core strength within even 6 months to a year.

Falque sounds promising too. It does seem odd that Villareal A didn't go for him after having him on loan, but then we don't really know the scenario. They could have bid and been asked for a fee they deemed too much at the time, a fee that we may deem acceptable if he makes his way into our first team squad over the course of the year?

Who knows? All I do know is that you should never write off players who have excellent natural control and pace to go with it. If it's a new tactic of ours to scour Europe for a few of these types of players who haven't quite made it at their current clubs for whatever reason then it's a tactic i'm happy with. Eventually we'll pick up a diamond, let's hope it's one or both of these kids.

All I'm saying is that most players who haven't 'made it' by 21 don't tend to do so at all.

The nature of British football/the media... to write players off if they're 18 and haven't made it yet is pretty sickening.

A fine example is that of Tom Cleverley, now getting his chance at Man Utd, aged 22.

Let's not rush judgements on players. I still have hope for John Bostock!

Players who tend to break in to their first team at young are normally built like men and have good upper body strength like rooney, messi and wilshere

Carroll imo has the technical ability of wilshere a year ago but the issue he has is he is built like 12 year old, he did surprisingly well against the brutes of league 1 but he needs a strong DM next to him and when you look at that midfield it's no wonder he got over run

It was a cool damp evening for this friendly match for Kettering Town's long serving Striker Jean-Paul Marna. Tim Sherwood used a mixture of Academy and young players outside the first team squad. Falque made his first appearance alongside his fellow countryman Ceballos.

Spurs lined up with Alnwick in goal behind Nicholson and Ekong with Fredericks at right back and Olaya on the left. Parrett and Carroll started in the centre of midfield with Ceballos on the right flank and Falque on the left with Kane and Lancaster up front. Kudis Oyenuga started on our bench but due to lack of players was loaned to the home side.
Spurs defended the North end in the first half and as seems the way with Spurs teams, they went behind early. Falque had drawn a save from the keeper before Koo-Boothe forced Alnwick to save at the other end. A long ball over the top saw Ashikodi win the race with Ekong to drive the ball past Alnwick into the net. This was quickly followed by a second when Ashikodi got free on the right and whipped in a cross that Nicholson mis-judged allowing Marna, behind him, to volley the ball first time past the keeper.
We then had a Spanish double in reply, when Fredericks made a good run down the right before passing inside to Falque who cut inside before whipping in a shot that took a deflection off Ifil on its way into the net. This was followed shortly after with the equaliser when Kane's clever flick played in Ceballos who lifted the ball over the advancing keeper.
Haxhia saved a low drive from Ceballos before Koo-Boothe headed over from a corner. Kane played in Falque who laid the ball off to Fredericks but he fired over. Bridges drew a save from Alnwick before Ceballos saw his effort saved. Ashikodi got down the left and drove in a low shot that Alnwick could not hold and a red shirted player was able to get a foot to the loose ball first but Olaya cleared off the line. Parrett fired wide and Haxhia saved from Fredericks as the half drew to a close.
Kettering made a number of changes including the appearance of ex-spur Jamie Clapham at half time while Spurs only made one as Bostock replaced Parrett in the middle of the park.
Ceballos won a corner that he took himself, and Carroll fired over when the "Poppies" failed to clear. Marna held off Nicholson before guiding the ball past Alnwick to put the home side back in front. Alnwick had to come off his line quickly in a race for a through ball, and got there just in front of Dance but somehow lost it leaving Dance with an open goal for a 4-2 lead.
Sherwood replaced both full-backs with Barthram on the right and Stewart on the left. Oyenuga came on for Kettering replacing Marna. Spurs were now stronger defensively making a better platform for attacking. Ceballos made a run through the left channel playing a one-two with Falque finishing again with a little chip over the keeper.
Pritchard came on for Lancaster moving into the centre of midfield with Bostock moving up front. Falque nut-megged a defender on the edge of the area who then blocked his run to concede a free kick in a dangerous area. Kane distracted the keeper as Bostock struck his kick into the far corner of the net to bring the scores level again.
Ceballos hit a long diagonal ball into the far left corner for the advancing Stewart to chase. Stewart made it and turned the ball inside to Falque who jinked inside before drilling it past Bussey to put the visitors in front. Sherwood replaced Ceballos with his last sub - goalkeeper Jordan Archer. Kane fired well over before the two coaches withdrew a player each Oyenuga of Kettering and Archer for Spurs to finish the game with ten a side. Kane fired over and Pritchard had an effort that was wide as the game tailed off.
This was a good result for our young side and with the two Spaniards working well together, coming inside and switching wings, scoring a brace apiece to take the honours. Nicholson struggled a little playing in the backline instead of in front of it. Kane and Lancaster were somewhat by-passed by Falque and Ceballos up front, which should get better as they play more games. I was surprised we did not see Coulibaly play a part.

Their B teams are in our version of the Championship.
