Can't say I have high hopes for him given he's 21 and has yet to play a proper senior game in his career:
2008 Barcelona B 1 (1)
2008 Juventus 0 (0)
2009 Bari (loan) 0 (0)
2010–2011 → Villarreal B (loan) 36 (11)
2011– → Tottenham Hotspur (loan) 0 (0)
I hope to be proved wrong but I can't help but think that someone would have given him a chance by now if he had what it takes.
Ok fair enough but if he was truly impressive I don't see why Villareal wouldn't have wanted him for their first team.
Thanks a lot to those who posted match reports and videos. From a distance Ceballos looks so much like Messi!
I find it unbelievable that a kid as talented as him would be written off at age 18/19 for being too lightweight. For a start, people naturally "fill out" at completely different ages. Some when they're 15, some when they're 30, so there's plenty of time for those shoulders to broaden a bit, but even if they don't, with dedicated gym work and diet you can make such a difference to physical bulk and core strength within even 6 months to a year.
Falque sounds promising too. It does seem odd that Villareal A didn't go for him after having him on loan, but then we don't really know the scenario. They could have bid and been asked for a fee they deemed too much at the time, a fee that we may deem acceptable if he makes his way into our first team squad over the course of the year?
Who knows? All I do know is that you should never write off players who have excellent natural control and pace to go with it. If it's a new tactic of ours to scour Europe for a few of these types of players who haven't quite made it at their current clubs for whatever reason then it's a tactic i'm happy with. Eventually we'll pick up a diamond, let's hope it's one or both of these kids.
All I'm saying is that most players who haven't 'made it' by 21 don't tend to do so at all.
The nature of British football/the media... to write players off if they're 18 and haven't made it yet is pretty sickening.
A fine example is that of Tom Cleverley, now getting his chance at Man Utd, aged 22.
Let's not rush judgements on players. I still have hope for John Bostock!
