I always thought he had the makings of a top player, and was given scant opportunity at the Lane - and said so on here despite getting some scathing replies.
The problem was that so many were taking his performances at total face value. BMJ wanted a tough-tackling defensive midfielder and got KPB. KPB stated, himself, that he could not tackle for toffee, and, as we all now know, he is an offensive midfielder. When 'Arry arrived, I was hopeful that he would get used properly - especially after 'Arry made the comment about him being a former Young German player of the year and if they couldn't make a player out of him there was something wrong with them - and then, almost immediately, gave him to Portsmouth. We did see a cameo from him, where he scored an excellent goal, before he left, and I think the Portsmouth deal was the gateway to getting us Defoe, etc. - players 'Arry trusted. I'm not knocking that, just saying that is the way it was.

But it is in the past, now.

I think we shipped him out correctly. Here's his stats from soccernet. He is far from productive and aside from last season doesn't look like he would get any more so. Good sale i say.
season Games Goals Assits Goal+Assits/games
2012/2013 28 1 3 0.14
2011/2012 27 9 4 0.48
2010/2011 40 4 3 0.18
2009/2010 28 5 3 0.29

interesting stats there! where did u get them from?

At portsmouth he was easily their best player and without him and O'hara they would of gone a long time ago and he knocked us iirc, I always said we loaned and sold the wrong one:banghead:

I remember going to the Derby reserve match with us a couple of weeks after we signed him and he scored a overhead kick from a corner lol he had potential and aggression which I think could of been great for us at the time, unfortunately in the first team he at times had too much aggression.

He did do well for AC when he has played DM btw

We never played him in his proper position and he admitted himself that he went off the rails when at Spurs.

If he'd stayed I very much doubt he'd be the Boateng we see today. Like Taarabt he came to us at the wrong time in his career and needed to be shipped out to get a bit of cop on.

Boateng or Dempsey?

:banghead:

You say that, but he used regularly to get ripped to shreds on here. I've forgotten what his last game was but he had a bit of a stinker and as I recall there was a general chorus of 'Get rid!' or words to that effect. He had a few defenders, like Bill Oddie, but I don't think there were too many tears shed when we flogged him to Pompey.

Young players need good management.
He was arrogant but clearly had a lot of potential.
Our loss I'm afraid.
He was often criticised on here for giving free kicks away in dangerous areas.
A practice that Palacios , Parker and at first Sandro made into an art form.

I'm sure I heard rumours that kpb had been hit with a bottle by a spurs fan or even the other way round did anyone else hear this
