I'm not getting too excited quite yet. "He is on the plane right now", could just mean he is taking a couple of inches off a door.

If he’s coming from China then we have bought him on eBay.That means he’ll take about 6 weeks to arrive. If he’s not then up to standard Levy will complain and his old club will offer us a 50% discount to keep him.

Sounds like a lot of negotiating mumbo jumbo to me but:

Min-Jae Kim told to stay at Beijing Guoan after Premier League interest

South Korea defender Min-Jae Kim has been told to stay at Beijing Sinobo Guoan after interest from the Premier League.

The 23-year-old centre-back returned late to China from his native country ahead of the Chinese Super League (CSL) restart and the club have told him they do not want to sanction a sale.

Kim is said to be frustrated at Guoan's firm stance while currently stuck in a 14-day quarantine in a Beijing hotel, where he is following coronavirus protocols before returning to training.

Kim, who has been linked with the likes of Tottenham and Everton, is the mainstay of Guoan's defence and they want to play him in their first game back from a six-month hiatus against Chongqing Lifan on July 26.

Reports in China have also claimed he caused offence in the country with comments about his team-mates while back in South Korea during the CSL postponement.

Sky Sports News has been told it will take a big offer for Guoan to consider a sale later this summer.

Kim, who speaks good English, has 30 caps for South Korea - playing alongside Spurs forward Heung-Min Son at the 2018 World Cup in Russia - and three international goals; all of them towering headers from set-pieces.

As well as being an imposing presence in the penalty area, Kim has shown good ability with the ball at his feet and playing out from the back, which has attracted interest from Europe since his days at K-League side Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.

There have be a few videos doing the the rounds of him out muscling players from European leagues who are now in China, so should give some context for those who say the league isn’t representative. There’s one of him taking on Dembele, Axel Witsel also I believe.

Really not sure why we would need to sign him when we already have Dier, Toby, Sanchez, Tanganga, and even Foyth if he stays.

You would think that funds would be better spent elsewhere.

I think we might look to sell Toby or Dier in a years time while they're still under contract (if Dier signs a new one).

Dier - Contract expiring and not established at centre back
Toby - Over 30 and starting to decline
Sanchez - Still very inconsistent
Tanganga - Contract expiring, young, possibly viewed more as RB by Jose
Foyth - Not sure Jose rates him

Our defence has been terrible for most of the season.

Not saying Kim is the perfect signing but I can definitely see a need for one more CB

Think you’ve answered your own question there

And I feel like if that does happen, then would be the time to sign a new CB [along with if Sanchez or Tanganga are shifted].

If Dier and Tanganga don’t sign, then yes, of course they should be shifted and we should be bringing in new centre backs. I do think Dier will sign a new contract this summer though.

I also wouldn’t say he’s not established at centre back. He seems to have Jose’s trust in that position, which is all that matters.

I also think we won’t have issues agreeing financial terms with Tanganga. I think the real problem would be getting him to believe he’ll be seeing the pitch with 4 or 5 other senior center backs at the club who are all full internationals. Maybe we’ll get him a loan.

While I’m sure Japhet doesn’t mind getting minutes as a fullback right now, as a kid who has played center back for England in every age group, I‘m sure he’ll want to continue to develop in his preferred position. He’s shown a lot of promise thus far, and it would be shame not to invest in a home grown talent.

Toby just signed a new contract. To flog him off the following summer would be poor from the club and I can’t see it happening.

As for Sanchez, who I think may end up as third choice to Toby and Dier next season, maybe he could be off. I do think it’s bold to expect a player from the Chinese league who has never played in Europe to be “more consistent” than him though.

I do think he looks a decent prospect. I’m just trying to understand how he fits in the picture currently to help gauge if this is even true. If it is, I definitely expect some of our current centre backs to be moved on.

Your reply is based in your own opinion.

Mine is based on possible reasons why the club might look to sign a new centre back which is the question you asked.

Not really sure what your point is any more.
