We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Portsmouth for the transfer of Niko Kranjcar to the Club, following the player successfully completing a medical examination and agreeing personal terms.
The Croatia international began his career with Dinamo Zagreb, where he made his debut at the age of 16 and captained the side to a league and Super Cup double in 2003.

The 25-year-old joined rivals Hajduk Split in January 2005, earning another championship medal in his first season.

The midfielder moved to Fratton Park in the summer of 2008 and played a total of 100 games, scoring 12 times in all competitions.

Similiar to the Crouch signing this will give us loads more options. He's a versatile player and will be very valuable for covering all across the midfield. He is also a quality player in his own right who is worth probably 5 times what we paid for him. He played a very attacking role for Pompey but I genuinely believe he would settle well into a midfield along with Modders, Wilson and Lennon...he's very big and technically very good. Over the moon with this signing tbh and I really think he can develop into a quality player for us (he is only 25 as well so coming into his peak).

Not really happy.

It is just sending the wrong message.

Basically tells the Bostocks, Gios, Parretts etc that we have NO faith in you to sustain our form. We have a massive, MASSIVE squad and for the most part it is a waste of wages because we hardly ever ease players in. I thought we were bucking the trend playing Hud in JJ's absence but looks like we are back to the kitchen sink approach.

Harry said he is a great player and has that Croatian ethic that Modric and Corky show, but I don't think he does. He held out on his contract for one. And in the past he did the equivalent of a Judas with an old team of his.

Is he a good player. Yep. Is he better than what we have? IMO no. Will be play better in Modrics position than GDS? No

No way, in a million years, is Kranjcar better than GDS. I am hoping this is more based on his set piece taking ability like corners etc, to thinking he is going to improve us as a footballing team.

Side step IMO and shows we have no direction.

Very good signing and will add some depth to the squad.

One minute people are moaning we dont have enough experienced players and now people are moaning we arent giving youngsters a chance. If youngsters are good enough...they will get a chance.

So happy we signed this guy. He's the type of player this country doesn't produce anymore. Has a good combination of technique and understanding of the game. I wanted us to sign him in january, and now it's happened. T'riffic.

90% of spurs fans and 99.999% of non-spurs fans would disagree with you.

Your post is just plain wrong. This is progress.

Gibbs, I think that very often you make valid points but then get carried away with them or take them to far. I call it the "black of white syndrome" where if something isn't one thing it just must be another!

What you are saying is true to an extent, these kids are all hopefully working their socks off to get a chance and seeing us bringing in players in instead of promoting from within must be frustrating. The problem is that we have started the season very well and therefore as an ambitious club who have spent a fortune we are looking to take advantage of that. We have lost one of the main reasons for that start and needed to replace him with a player that could do his job and maybe even some others as well.

Niko is experienced, he is talented, he scores and is a big strong, versatile lad. Gio is young, inexperienced in our league, plays most happily on the RIGHT, and it is clearly felt that he is not up to it yet.

And yes, Niko is better than Gio, Bostock, Livermore etc and whats more, he can actually play in the position that we are in need of covering. Gio is a second striker or right winger.

Has GDS ever shown he's a better player than Kranjcar in the Premiership? No.

Gibbsy you're a joke.

I think the main point about us as Spurs fans is that we perennially over-rate the kiddies.

Pekhart was to be the next Klinsman, Dervitte was to take over from Ledley, Adel was the next Zidane, Gunther was the future.

I dont know wheter all clubs are like this but there is a list of players the length of John Holmes schlong who we're deitified by Spurs fans as the next big thing (without knowing much about them or in some cases even seen them play) who went on to do fvck all.

People even thought that utter donkey Kaboul was an "unpolished gem" with all the attributes and a huge future.

Really talented youngsters will always come to the fore simple as that....and we dont have as many of those at the club as we would like to think.

Glad gibbs isnt the tottenham manager.

Levy - "gibbs we want top 4 this season. we have the funds to bring in a replacement for luka while hes out..."

gibbs131 - "Fcuk it!! Chuck the kids in. they'll be fine because every 18-19 year will turn out good just like Rooney! even tho they have little to no game time in the prem!"

:grin::grin::grin:
