I think previously we haven't been able to attract a class striker to play backup to Kane simply because good strikers want to play and we couldn't offer them that. Son and Llorente as backup to Kane was about the best we could do, although we all hoped Llorente would be able to contribute more than he did the times he was on the pitch.I don't really know much about Piatek, looks like a solid backup but it's absolutely criminal that we're in this position at striker.
Kane has been injured each of the last three seasons and you can clearly see he's slowed down a bit. He plays all the time for England and yet he's played every single EPL minute this year for us except 20 and he's played every UCL minute except for the dead rubber against Bayern. We've run him into the ground because we have no other options, it's no surprise at all he got injured carrying the load he does.
After this season, we need to take a much more intelligent strategy for rotating Kane. He's going to be 27 this summer with a lot of miles on him and a long injury history. If we want him healthy and anywhere near his best, he's going to need to be rotated much more often which will require us to actually invest up front.
Looking for a positive in all this, now Kane's injury record is such that it makes us more attractive to good strikers because they know they will get a lot of games each season.
