Kyle Walker's Manchester City transfer set to drag on as Tottenham stand firm over £50million valuation

The frustrations of the Walker chase mean that City have turned to Juventus' Dani Alves although it is not simply a case of one or the other with Pep Guardiola happy to work with both next season

Manchester City’s bid to sign Kyle Walker will drag on into next week as Tottenham Hotspur dig their heels in over the price for the England right-back.

The two clubs have been locked in talks this week and City have been frustrated by Spurs’ valuation which is close to £50million. Pep Guardiola has made Walker a priority and after quickly tying up the signatures of Bernardo Silva and Ederson, City wanted a deal done quickly.

But Daniel Levy knows that he has no reason to sell for anything less than his asking price. Walker has four seasons left on the contract he signed last autumn and Tottenham will not be pushed into anything.

Unless City cave in and pay a huge fee, this will become one of the transfer sagas of the summer.

Walker decided that his future lay away from Tottenham, and preferably at the Etihad Stadium, back in April. He knows that he could double his weekly wages of roughly £65,000 with a move to City.

He also fell out with Mauricio Pochettino over training and fitness, and was pointedly benched for the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea and the crucial north London derby against Arsenal.

Pochettino said all season that he would only sell players he wanted to sell, which meant there was no chance of Harry Kane or Dele Alli going. But with Walker falling out of favour, Spurs know that they can get a huge fee for a player who is not even necessarily first choice any more.

Having extracted a then-world record £85million fee from Real Madrid for Gareth Bale in 2013, Spurs are confident of their negotiating powers for a player who has also interested Manchester United and Barcelona.

The frustrations of the Walker chase mean that City have turned to Juventus right-back Dani Alves. Although he is a plausible alternative to Walker, it is not simply a case of one or the other. City would not mind starting next season with both, although for now, Alves is more attainable.

Levy always spouted that it would take a world record transfer fee to buy Gareth Bale of about 100 million and sure enough....................

Do journalists just read this thread then put out an article of what is being discussed in here? That Independent piece could of been written directly from the last page!

I want him to stay couldn't give a stuff about 50m or 100m, love him in our team, what's the point in having a huge bank balance and a walker sized hole? Then maybe spunk the cash on an unknown quantity, pointless

The percentage is irrelevant. What I was saying was the MAJORITY of footballers will move clubs to earn more money. I obviously wasn't talking about just at THFC but in the whole footballing world. People have mortgage's to pay and family members to look after, after all.

Anyway, with the risk of derailing the thread further, I'll leave it there to avoid any more wumming from people.

I hope Walker stays, they haven't bid yet by the sounds of things and until they do at the value Levy demands then nothing will change. If they sign Alves I can't see Walker going there but you never know.
So you agree 99% was wrong then, a MAJORITY can be as low as 51%

Wouldn't surprise me to see Walker going to Bayern, Barca or madrid. He performed well in the Euro's and is in his prime. Would love it if (if he is definitely unsalvageable) City stumped up £50m only to be told we sold him to Barca for £49m.

Walker is a terrific player. How many are faster than him? He's ideal for the wide-open spaces at Wembley - but it sounds like that for the right money he's available. As long as we have a quality replacement that we can bring in for reasonable money.

If the object of selling Walker is to raise money for other purchases then I'd rather see Rose transferred. Quality left-sided replacements seem to be in abundance these days. Sessegnon, Fuchs, Chilwell, Cresswell and Shaw come to mind. Rose is an excellent player - but he's be out for a while now and hasn't he had other injury problems in the not-too-distant past?

Rose is better than walker, going forward and in defence, in my opinion.

But why would you want to keep a player that caused a few issues last year and seems to want to leave but sell someone that's improved year after year and seen as one of the best team players in the squad?

Yes, Fuchs is a decent player. And so are the others that I mention. It's tough to find decent right-sided wing-backs. Not so tough to find quality on the left side. Do you disagree with that?

For the way we play, Rose is absolute perfect fit. We don't have to look far to see what we lack when's he's not fit. We saw Davies play well but clearly lacked that extra threat that Rose offers. Out of the 5 replacement LB's you mentioned I can only see Sessegnon being a able deputy for Rose. And to your point about decent LWB versus RWB, just by the sheer number of right footed players in the game, I argue the opposite.

We've heard that Walker caused a few issues last year - but isn't this simply rumour? He's always appeared a committed Spurs player to me. Rose is a decent player - and has done very well for the Club - but I think Walker is the better player. Maybe it would be best if both stay...

Sheer number of right footed players? You're right in that there are more of them - but I'd be interested in you naming those that might take Walker's place. I can't think of any quality players in the PL that might come reasonably priced.
