Kyle Walker: Manchester City open talks with Tottenham for England defender

Manchester City have opened talks with Tottenham about the potential signing of defender Kyle Walker.

Negotiations for the England international are at an early stage, and no fee has been agreed.

It is understood Sheffield United have a sell-on clause of 10% of any fee above the estimated £3m they sold Walker for eight years ago.

Anything below £50m will be a travesty tbh, best right back in the league. Should not be strengthening our rivals when their weakest area is defence.

fuck. Ive been on the Walker bandwagon since his first season here, and defended him repeatedly. I think he's a phenomenal talent - mostly because of his insane athleticism. Whatever brainfarts he is prone to are more than offset by his ability. He consistently can dominate the entire right flank for 90 minutes which frees up other players to do other things.

Only we could strengthen our rivals which in turn weakens us and still not even strengthen other areas

I know there's a bunch in here that have deluded themselves into thinking trippier is as good but this is terrible news.

Nothing less than 60 million if he can't be convinced back

I think its clear that we're not selling below £50m, only thing that might be up for debate is add ons etc Fully expect Levy to fleece City over as we hold the advantage with this one.

Kieran Trippier seals five-year Spurs deal
Matt Hughes, Deputy Football Correspondent | Gary Jacob
June 29 2017, 5:00pm, The Times

Trippier is in line to become Spurs’ first-choice right back.
Kieran Trippier has signed a new five-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur with Maurcio Pochettino promising to give him the opportunity to establish himself as the club’s first-choice right back.

The England international has doubled his wages to £65,000 a week and is hoping to demonstrate that he is good enough to replace Kyle Walker, who will be sold to Manchester City later this summer assuming Tottenham’s Premier League rivals meet chairman Daniel Levy’s £40 million valuation.

I hope you're right :(

Apart from the delusional Trippier is just as good as Walker line a justification for selling him is that it'll give us £50m to spend on improving the squad. With who exactly? From what I can see every good player (Lemar being the latest) is either too high a price, wanting way above our absurdly strict wage limit or we get blown out of the water by the richer clubs.

What that leaves us with is overpriced turnips like Barkley or multiple cheap youth prospects who could be a Dele or could be an NKoudou.

Selling Walker is a massive mistake and I'm not going to have some false belief we'll use this money on buying anyone I think wow we've really pushed on a level.

We'll have to hope that we get Ricardo Pereira as his replacement because everything I've seen and read suggests he could be an outstanding RB in the near future (better than Walker) - I suppose it might depend on how he deals wit the physicality of the PL.

I sincerely hope that if he does go that this time such a huge sum is invested wisely. I must admit that he's is definitely not the first name on my "show them the exit door" listing but none of us know exactly what has gone on between Kyle and Poch. I would be far happier to see Sissoko wave goodbye than this guy. It will be with heavy heart that I shall watch him run out at Wembley with a blue shirt on this season.
I wish the lad well and think he has handled all the media pressure extremely professionally so far....let's get this deal over the line quickly and then move on to satisfying our priority needs rather than Man City's.

Cannot believe we even entertaining Pep and City.

Walker is a positive to our team and him leaving is negative.

This is a World Cup season and we have Wembley to contend with, letting any of the first 14 go is just not good business.

Would hate to see Walker line up against us .

As for the money, even if we get £50million who will we buy? Or who wants to come to us? Also Walker to City may give them a good run at the title, all bad news for us.

Trippier is not as good as Walker and who knows if another RB will be as good or for that matter even come to Spurs.

We have the best two RB's in the league and should keep them
Actually we should keep the 14 first team players we tend to use mostly.

Totally agree with you. 50M buy you overpriced players with inflated wage that sits on the bench. Walker plays both as RB or RWB which is one of the most important position for transitional play. Look at City when they try that with their RB..... or Arsenal with Bellerin.

When Walker plays, I am always confident he can defend his position esp against top 5. Trippier expose himself against big team so I would only utilise him against other weaker teams that doesnt have the likes of Hazard, de Bruyne, Sane, Martial, Sanchez etc. People should think carefully what can we reinvest with 50M in this inflated market..... I would keep him another year and sell him next year if we can get someone young this season and push Trippier to another level.

As if City would sell us one their best starters, in a key position that many clubs are looking to strengthen, and that is critical for the way teams play these days, for £50m. Quote them £60m+, and if they think they can find better value elsewhere, then let them.

Trippier is not one of the best RB's in the league at all.

i agree with you and i actually see no reason to sell him this summer with the World Cup next year what ever the situation with Poch last season Walker would be highly motivated to do well. So I say sell him next summer as he is still improving and maybe not at his peak yet...

If, and I repeat IF we end selling Kyle to a direct competitor for top 4 placings we would be committing suicide! Never ever strengthen direct competitors. The board shojld not even entertain any contact to whoever. End of. ILWT & IPWT.

Think we'll see him move around 55m.

We better invest that back in the squad or I'll be fuming.
