Strangely wasn’t called up to the Japan squad for the Qatar World Cup. But then the Japan manager also had Mitoma on the bench most of the time

Good player, would depend on the fee but inevitable we will be linked with him and Hatate as they are both too good for the SPL.

Seeing how well Mitoma has adapted to the league, I would definitely be keen.

Kyogo could definitely be an asset to the squad. Full of energy, presses from the front and gets himself in to great positions in and around the box. Very hard for defenders to pick up.

I wouldn’t expect him to hit Kane/Haaland numbers but will certainly put some away if the chances are presented.

In my head, your name is actually Ross, so I'm going to run with it. Another sensible and informative couple of posts from you. Your postings always bring a much needed bit of sanity to the place. Thanks, Ross

I totally agree with what you say. Never knee jerk stuff, always concise, self expanatory and well written

The 3 players probably we will get linked too from Celtic are Kyogo, Dazin and McGregor.

Dazin has a great workrate, something we have missed since lamela has gone and has pace also.

Hatate is the one we should be looking at

😁

Actually, your'e right and thanks for saying.

I don't see the point in getting irritated by everything little thing that happens although these past few years have been very very testing.

Let's hope we can identify some gems that can be the new Alli, new Eriksen, new Vertonghen etc

Need to stop scoffing at certain markets.

Football is significantly improving in many countries and that means more talent comes through.

Brighton have the South American market and they themselves picked up Mitoma.

We looked at Min Jae a lot and he's gone onto become a superb CB.

Kvarastkhelia too and other Georgian players coming through.

Hopefully we can start to tap into some of these as well as young British talent.

Id sign a quality CB and GK and then look to these markets
Tbf, I live in Edinburgh and the SPFL is a market that is rightly scoffed at. I've got a season ticket at Hibs and the standard of the league outside the Old Firm is as low as I can remember.

Kyogo is miles off a PL player. He was left out of the Japan World Cup squad because he lacks physicality which would be a huge problem for him. He works hard but struggles with his back to goal.

It's worth remembering that Odsonne Eduoard absolutely ripped the SPFL for 3 years and he can't get in the Palace team, and he's a better player than Kyogo.

Add to that, I can't see Levy stumping up a big fee for a 28 yr old whose main success has been in the SPFL.

My only concerns are physicality and his age. If the price was right and Ange thinks he can make the step up, I actually think he's that perfect type of "defoe" esque striker that could be really useful later on in matches.

There will be tons of speculation on who can make the step up, probably best we just see how the Summer plays out. Ange isn't going to just come in and give all of his former players chances unless he's confident they can adapt and play at this level.

As another Edinburgh based Spurs (but one who watches the right team here 😉) can confirm Kyogo isn’t of the standard we should be looking at.

There are a couple of players in that Celtic squad who are young and could make the leap and develop further (Jota, O’Brien, Abada, Hatate) but even then would be a gamble. Don’t think there’s any need to poach from them.

Maeda works hard but is a bit lacking in quality too many times in order to take the step up.
Kyogo is a forward with probably the best movement I have seen. But you wonder if he is maybe a year or 2 too old for a PL club to take a gamble.

The other that I would keep an eye on is Jota. He's a fantastic young player with lots of potential. Very exciting wide man who takes people on and has a good eye for goal. Can see him moving to a club in the bigger leagues either this summer or next.

True but I wasn't necessarily talking about taking players from the SPL.

I am mostly talking about markets like Japan, South Korea, Argentina, Ecuador, Georgia etc

Places far afield.

It's very common for football fans to knock these markets down despite knowing absolutely nothing about them

I think Mourinho made it clear we were trying for Kim Min Jae and levy wouldn't pay the money

Not for me. Hatate on the other hand looks like he could be a good player if able to adapt to the pace of the league.

just checked Celtic's squad, they have so many players from J1 League. I wonder if the appointment of Ange would bring us the scouting network in Japan

He’s got an excellent network there and has been able to get players of a suitable standard for the level he was managing at.

I don't mind Japanese players. but I much prefer someone who is a little younger. Like Son when he came. I believe he was around 22, 23 when he joined. Guys around 22, 23 or even slightly younger with potential. That would be perfect.

He's 28 and if he was good enough he would have been in the prem some time ago. This isn't the same as Mitoma or Son
