March, poor kid, going to be very hard for him to get into the World Cup squad now. This guy is having the worst luck, I still think its strange that we have to rely on his brothers tweets for updates on his fitness.

His brother does like to take the limelight. :cautious:

Well it was more than 20mins and it is baffling actually. A big part of sport is confidence and Lamela's would have been higher after that game than at any time since he's been here.

That decision proved to me that a lot of the stuff about AVB being a "stats and spreasheet" type manager was spot on.

How do you know this?

My issue with this is that at the time, Townsend was pretty good in the league. He'd put in an MOM performance against Villa couple of weeks previous, played well against Hull, coming back on after going over those advertising hordings and actually looked very good at Everton as well. So at the time, I don't think he deserved to lose his place to Lamela off the back of a good half against a pub side.

When you say Townsend looked good, I think 'looked' is the key word there. In most those games he flattered to deceive, beating players for fun but not actually contributing to the team with any worthwhile passes or shots (barring the accidental goal against Villa). Lamela on the other hand, when playing well against the 'pub team', was creating chances for fun.

I get what you're saying but there was a solution. Keep Townsend in the team but play him on the left. Unfortunately, AVB didn't understand this weird concept.

Was he creating chances for fun though? Really? He was playing well no doubt, but come on. It wasn't even a better performance than Townsend's best in the same competition.

Potentially yes. But I'm still wary of Lamela in the wide positions. I think he's more suited to the centre, where Eriksen is now, perhaps with Eriksen going left.

Totally agree. That is how i would look to play Lamela. That way Lennon also gets to play (or if he continues to be in poor form then Towsnend in his place).

Lennon, Lamela and Eriksen behind Ade and in front of Sandro and Dembele/Paulinho is the way I would like us to set up.

TS on Lamela;

"I keep asking for an update and they keep telling me that we'll just have to investigate a little further"

Hmmm....

If he's out till march then lock him in the gym and get him doing some upper body work. He'll return a beast. Still have faith he will be a great player for us
