  4. Ben Pearce ‏@BenPearceSpurs 20m
#thfc Sherwood on Erik Lamela: "He’s injured. He’s had a thigh injury and he’s had a niggle in his back. We’re still assessing him..."

TS on Lamela;

"I keep asking for an update and they keep telling me that we'll just have to investigate a little further"

Hmmm....
I really don't get this. The medical team should be more specific, and more forthcoming. To me, Tim is suggesting that he isn't getting a straight answer. I know our medical team saved Muamba's life and everything but what are they like as a whole? Get the sense that they are woeful at diagnosing injuries, and are not able to give realistic time frames for recuperation.

Was he creating chances for fun though? Really? He was playing well no doubt, but come on. It wasn't even a better performance than Townsend's best in the same competition.

Well, where as Townsend is good at getting to the by-line or putting a cross into the area, Lamela can drop seamlessly into the center and play passes into the striker. Perhaps Townsend will be more effective now we have a target man in the middle in Adebayor, but Lamela would still be the better option in terms of chance creation imo

Niggle in his back as well? This sounds ominous and not straightforward. Could it be Lamela being awkward?

i am sure Erik is worried and no news coming out of the Lamela camp indicates he may have a bad injury. He needs game time at the very least to keep his Argentine hopes alive. Spurs seems like a sorry clusterfuck of one fiasco after another for the lad this season.

I think its the classic homesickness/lack of confidence. I believe its common that the inappropriate mentality can contribute to players struggling to overcome injuries, as seen with Owen Hargreaves.

Hopefully he can settle and mentally be in the right place..I think he can be a star player and is so young we need to give him time

Haha this is ridiculous, they're niggles and Sherwood, our manager, can't get any more detail than that. That's Dr Nick standard.

I think we've already decided to sell him in the summer and theres a payment clause after a certain amount of games!

Edit: I joke, but i worry....

Yep. Most players say that long bouts of injury can be the loneliest of places as you're not playing, not training with the lads etc. And that's those that have either been here years, got families here or were even born here. So I do feel for him.

It could be but I don't think it is. I just can't see him, if he's fully fit, not wanting to try his best to work his way into the side, what with it being a WC year and all. Those photo's of him training at the lane late one night by himself shows he has something about him at least. I think he's just fucking unlucky. Signed for the perfect club

Either that or as it's a back twinge it could be very difficult to fully diagnose/put a time on. That's not necessarily Dr Nick standard, it's managing expectation. You're not going to say "yes Tim, it'll be a month" if you're still trying to find the problem.

Yeah I don't really believe it either. You never know though, particularly after wanting a move in January (if his old man is to be believed).

There was ITK saying that's exactly what we did with Gio.

The lack of transparency from the club regarding Lamela has been pretty shocking from the start. If he's injured then so be it but the timing of it and the stuff in January from his camp leads me to believe there's more to it than meets the eye.

It all seems so unprofessional this season that nothing would surprise me at all.
