I'm not completely sure that the posters who are saying that Lamela is shit really know what kind of player he is. Lamela's strengths are his passing, vision and movement, what do those 3 attributes have in common? That's right, they all require other players. They require other players to move into positions to receive the ball, they require other players to have good movement for Lamela to pick out, they require other players to have vision to pass the ball to Lamela when he moves. Since he arrived has he had those things around him? No.

Lamela will not shine until the team settles and plays to his strengths. He has bags of talent and although he doesn't currently look a 30 million player he has the potential.

Yesterday's game was not ideal for him but I thought he did well. He looked for the ball, he tried to be creative, he tried to make things happen and as usual he worked very hard.

He was no worse than alexis sanchez, he was better than Juan Mata, he certainly wasn't rubbish.

I think he needs a run of games and I believe poch will give them to him. We should judge him once he has had a fair chance.

The best thing Poch can do for Lamela is just say - you weren't great against West Ham, but I believe in you. You're my man. Go again against QPR. That kind of backing will breed confidence in the lad.
Yes but apart from capoue, lloris and dier who was better than him yesterday? Nobody was great and Lamela was ok. I think he probably would be better off saying those things to eriksen, lennon, Kaboul, Naughton and Adebayor.

So its Ade and Naughtons fault he kept giving the ball away? Right
Are you serious? Lamela gave the ball away a few times but you need players to move into positions so that you can pass it to them. So yes, given that naughton was his only out wide ball and ade was his only forward ball, it was partly their fault.

He wasn't great yesterday but he wasn't a standout poor performance. He was a bit loose with his passing and he needs to be a bit more direct and commit his opponent but it's the first game of the season. He played 360 minutes last season in total so he's not got going yet but I think he'll come good. He's become an easy target for criticism because of his price tag, which is why media jump on him. I thought it was poor of the motd pundits to pick him out as a bad performance yesterday when there were worse performances, but it didn't really surprise me.

Let's get behind him, cheer his every touch and show him we want him to succeed. Talk of selling a guy who has played less than 500 minutes of prem football in total is madness.

Some people are never happy. One of the brightest prospects out there today. Tell you what next time we try to go for a potential world beater lets go for a proven premiership player ala Downing, Adam Johnson, Paul Ince.

Based on what I've seen from Andros in a spurs shirt, in a qpr shirt, and an England shirt!

Lamela has done absolutely nothing in this country so far.

Why do you think Lamela will be a success then? Please enlighten me
Intelligence, sorry Townsend has very little intelligence.
Great at running and whacking the ball into row z.
Maybe MP can get him to look up, but till then its Lamela all the way.
Lamela is a team player, Townsend isnt.

Who are these guys with like 50 odd posts that only come out of the woodwork to hate on one of our most talented youngsters?

I'll admit he was really disappointing yesterday though, really needs to keep it simple and be a bit more direct. He's got this really odd way of playing where he's never playing vertically/horizontally but always diagonally, if that makes any sense  Keep the ball Erik, play it to the guys in space and on the odd few occasions where you find some room, pull out the tricks then (y)

He is raw. It will take him half a season of playing to get how the Prem is. Took Cristiano a fair while to click. People forget Lamela is 22 not 28 and a finished article.

No he's shit mate. Flop. Useless. Waste of £30m. We should all ignore the 15 goals he scored as a 20 yr old in one of European top 3/4 leagues. We should also ignore Totti declaring him as his heir. On top of that it would be best to ignore the injuries he dealt with last season not to mention playing under tepid AVB or 44tim. Obviously none of these factors should be taken into account when considering whether he's been a success so far.

There are a lot of ridiculous posts lately in this thread which can only be described as pure bs. I seriously question the age of some posters on here. @Jazz do us all a favour and unwatch this thread and go buy the sun tomorrow morning and turn to the back pages and act like you know a thing or two about football. If you would like to brush up on your psychic abilities which you appear to have I recommend you read the mystic meg section. While you're at it find out Lamela's star sign and use that as another bullet point as to why he will fail as the worst Tottenham player ever.

Give him a chance before you go writing him off so much. Yesterday he wasn't shit nor was he amazing. People need to stop putting so much pressure on him to be the next coming of Bale and Ronaldo and let Lamela become Lamela. He will settle and he will learn. The talent is there. Be patient.

Couldn't agree with you more, I really think people want the next Simon Davies or next Andy Sinton (Good in their own right but never were going to be world class)

Between him and Eriksen yesterday I actually thought Eriksen was worse.

Eriksen's passes were just off and were almost always picked out/or going nowhere. Lamela at least drew some fouls with his running. Also showed to me that he has more power than I expected in his dribbling game.

Give him the season, same way I think it's foolish to write off paulinho think it's foolish to right off lamela.

I thought whole team was terrible yesterday. It was like avb at his worse mixed with tim sherwoods organisation

No pressing
No desire
No plan before and after the sending off
No edge

We only won due to west ham being a pub team with inferior players? So because lamela didn't shine doesn't make him a dud as I know eriksen, Lennon, ade etc can do better than that mess yesterday
