I still wonder whether some of our players are on the same wavelength as Lamela - there was even a couple of times last night where he looked for the pass and Aguero just wasn't expecting it.

Surely our players have seen him enough to know he's always looking for a short one-two or will dish it off quickly rather than only dribble or shoot. The amount of times players are caught on their heels cos they don't appreciate he wants to involve them has been quite striking for me whenever he's had an opportunity to play. Hopefully will get better with time

I think if Lamela isn't on someone like Aguero's wavelength, it's more his problem than anyone else.

You don't argue with Aguero on wavelength!

Townsend put in some delicious crosses last year, but we only had an impish Spanish thing that looks like a bird because his eyes are too far apart in the box.

In all seriousness though, I think he has actually looked better on the left as a genuine, crossing winger. Which I guess doesn't really fit in with Poch's desires.

Sorry, which English player are you referencing this with, out of the two English players compared?

Well how about just one. I could give you two......

A thousand miles apart?

Come on man.

What i mean is that alot of modern players are going to expect a wide forward/no. 10 in the modern game to take on another man themselves or have a shot once they get within 25 yards (be greedy), but Lamela will 9 times out of 10 squeeze in another pass. It could really open things up if players make themselves aware of this as defenders will fly out to block the shot as well

Just an observation

The whole invert winger thing was damaging to his reputation in eyes of people like you. Tbf you only saw what he was instructed to do at the time. I don't blame you for thinking this.

But he is a decent winger. And a very good crosser of the ball.

Pacey with a trick and an eye for goal. He has 2 extra facets that Lennon doesn't have.

If he has such an eye for a goal, how come his goals per game ratio is basically the same as Lennon's?

Yes he has a few tricks up his sleeve that Lennon doesn't have, but Lennon is actually a better dribbler from deep than Townsend is. He also has a better awareness of team mates than Townsend does (in fact one of Lennon's biggest problems is he isn't selfish enough and doesn't take responsibility when through on goal).

The only extra facet Townsend has over Lennon is shooting from distance and if can only manage to seriously test the keeper occasionally then it isn't actually much of a weapon.

Lennon is hardly the long term answer but he's a better player than Townsend all day long.

Well understandably using miles as a measure in regards to difference in ability isn't really quantifiable. But Sterling is younger, has better vision, movement, dribbling, change of speed, better at receiving the ball with his back to goal, more importantly has already shown that he has a decent end product.

I don't think Townsend is 'shit' and he's a Spurs lad, but he is clearly lacking when it comes to everything other than the physical part of the game. If he can regain his confidence and form from early last year he will be a decent option in the squad if we need an injection of directness from the bench.

Sterling has had more playing time in the prem than our own Andros. Who knows how far Townsend can go.

Agreed mate.
People interprete this as giving the ball away, he just looks 2 steps ahead sometimes.
Sunday when Danny ballooned one over the bar, lamela was running into the box anticipating a throw ball.
People miss these moment's because there to busy watching the ball go over the bar.
This is why I'm mystified Bobbys not playing, he sees these things, as he showed pre season.

Sterling has also had far better luck with injuries than Townsend and has therefore had less of a stunted integration. It also helps when, as a forward player, the midfield moves the ball as quickly as Liverpools. Too often our players are left facing 2-3 shirts and have to pull off something magical (like Lamela against QPR), instead of the whole team pulling players around. It makes it so much easier for quick, young players and is a big reason why Lennon was so good earlier on in his career.

I guess that says more about you than me.

But hey ho.

I don't hold a grudge.
I looked through the last 15 pages of your posts and couldn't find 1 I would have neg repped.

Unless it was something in that Israel thread that was deleted after about 12 hours...?
