Even though the following is from Chadli it gives a little insight into who, out of the 3 behind the striker, is deemed to be more a 2nd striker

"Also my role in the system suits me.

"Either I play as a second striker, in support of Adebayor, or on the flank.

"That depends on the opponent. I find that I have become more efficient."

I might be wrong on this but I'd assume that when Chadli is on the flank and not acting as our 2nd striker that it's Eiksen who'll then fill in support of the striker, not Lamela.

Lamela, it would seem, has freedom to roam, but his role will be more about releasing others. I'm sure he'll be tasked with scoring a few though, no doubt. In a way it's a good thing to give him a remit that's less goal foccussed. Less pressure

Expecting 15 goals from Lamela this season is mind boggling. 15 assists on the other hand? Much more likely than 15 goals. But i'd say 6 goals and 12 assists is probably about right for him this season.
I never said I expected 15 goals......I basically said it was my dream scenario of hope. I find it mind boggling that people can't read.

Once the front 4 gel and click, he won't be far off that target.
Come Xmas and beyond, I think we will be scoring goals for fun.
I seriously think people are underestimating how good Eriksen and Lamela are.
Intelligent player's love playing with player's on there wave length.
Sunday Eriksen and Lamela were linking brilliantly, both set up chances for each other.
I'm seriously excited about these 2.
We're lucky that we have these 2 player's here.

it makes such a differnce with him in the team with how well he keeps the ball and brings other places into the game compared to towsend who runs into blind alleys

I don't understand why you find it mind boggling that people can read. I mean, reading is a pretty basic skill, one that many adults manage to master without too much trouble.

Lamela is not a 30m player & not close to that at present.

Problem with Lamela is, he always tries tougher things which has low chance of success - hence giving away balls which otherwise could have be used by someone else.

Having said that he is the best AM we got. The best attribute of Lamela this season, is , he is giving his all for the team and there is desire to do well. He has often been the spark for us this season.

But if he really wants to realise his potential, he has got to make good decisions on ball - when to shoot , when not to run with the ball & when to pass.

Once he does that, he can do what Hazard is doing at Chelsea.

Jesus Christ. We paid for his potential. He will be worth double that in the near future. He's absolutely worth at least half of that price at present and once he gets on the scoresheet he'll be worth the full cost in no time.

Highlighted my exact point - he isn't close to being 30m player. Isn't it what I said too ?

He hasn't scored in 1300 min in PL or cups of the league. So, why is it taboo to say he is not 30m now? We need to stop this hero worshiping - doesn't get us anywhere.

To be honest, I have given him the compliments in second half of my comments and given my view what is missing.

He's got 6 assists. With better finishing from his teammates (mostly Ade who he's slid into great positions at least 5 times in the past few games) and luck off the posts he'd have 8/9 assists and 2 goals. I agree he needs to work on a few things, mainly his tendency to over dribble, but it has actually surprised me how dangerous he is. He plays the sort of passes that we'd expect from Eriksen, yet hardly see. Constantly putting his teammates into dangerous positions. He wins a ton of free kicks. Every time he manages to shoot he either works the keeper or hits the post, compare this to andros who manages a ton more shots but with alarmingly less accuracy. This is not to mention that he is the hardest working of all our forwards and AMs bar Lennon and even then I think his defensive contribution is better than Aaron's as he at least puts in tackles and wins the ball back rather than only tracking runners.

I understand the critiscm that he gives the ball away a bit too much but these concerns are aired with a sense that they are waiting to be proved wrong and their minds are already mostly made up. That he'd need to either completely turn the page and hit goals every other game or be written off. The signs of his improvement and value to the team are blatantly there to see and I am genuinely confused how anyone can but anything but positive over what they've seen so far this season. I am positive this time next season or even as soon as the latter stages of this one that he will blossom as our undoubted best player.

It's a shame such a thread exists to be honest. Every single game, every single move he tries, he gets either applauded or critisized for.

He won't ever be the perfect player 100% of the time. Even Bale during his wonder season, would be missing for massive portions of each game and then deliver with a random wonder goal.

Ronaldo fucked up plenty of times in his first year or two at united, I recall him getting some serious bollockings from his team mates for either diving, or fucking up doing a trick.

This guy is young, he looks dangerous, he looks hungry, but most of all he has the ability to do wonderfully well. I suspect we'll start to see more from him after Xmas. I'm glad he is injury free and I'm glad he plays for us.

Every game he plays will help him to get more used to the PL, to our team and to Potch's system.

Last year was a write-off he was injured for long periods and played in a team that had 2 managers who were never going to last.

Forgetting his price-tag I would say I am fairly pleased with him. He has got some good assists and looks stronger and fitter than before. He could do with scoring some more goals but as he plays more and as we improve as a team I have no doubt that will come.

He does sometimes take the harder option either dribbling into trouble or playing an overly ambitious pass and he also fouls a lot especially after giving the ball away...BUT at least he is trying to win it back and has a good attitude.

Very happy with how he's been so far this season and long may his progress continue, can really see a real decent player emerging.

It was a joke buddy. I was pretending to mis-read your rant about reading.

I guess I should've added a smiley face emoticon or an lol but I figured it was rather obvious I was joking.

Suppose that's the wonder of communicating without sound or body language.........

Has anyone noticed he doesn't look as rushed on the ball these days? He might not have made all the right decisions against Southampton but it seemed to me that when he got on the ball he instantly knew what he was going to try to do. I think he's turned the corner now and will only get better over the next few seasons. He definitely needs a goal or two but they will come if he keeps playing like he is.
