He needs to pick his moments better. Not every involvement needs to be a sole-dragging bonanza followed by a attempt to dribble. He's better when he mixes it up a bit. He seems a bit too eager to impress these days.

Turn it down a notch.

I've made my mind up on him. He doesn't have the work-rate, the tenacity or the intensity to play in the system we all saw yesterday. He strolled onto the pitch and shirked tackles, ruined the balance and the touches he did have were poor.

It's clear we're all desperate to see a £30m do well and shine, but sadly, I think he will struggle to get a starting place from here on out.

Ah, someone's been listening to Mr Big Face Carragher's inane post-match analysis, where he suggested that Lamela doesn't possess the attributes to fit into Poch's system, doesn't press, and has no intensity.

"Lamela don't do dat doh does he?"

Which is, of course, complete and total bollocks, since Lamela is one of the very few players, until yesterday, who has actually done exactly what Poch has been asking for on a regular basis this season - hence all his starts in the PL.

Lamela presses, harries, and has a great engine. He's constantly looking to turnover the ball and attack quickly, to pass forwards, and to transition from one end of the pitch to the other with the ball as quickly as possible.

Fortunately, Poch actually knows stuff about football, and knows all this, and therefore won't listen to Mr I Love Own Goals Carragher. And neither should you ;)

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

We can bight the bullet on this kid at the end of the season, but will be a massive mistake.

No other play in out squad has his natural ability, if we can harness it, we will have a superb player, we will have to wait and see if we can.

Lennon played well yesterday, and kudos to him, but he did the same last season and then followed it with 5 of the most anonymous performances i have ever seen from spurs player, so if he starts, he has to at least turn up.

Did he though? I've always heard he played on the wing, maybe I'm wrong though. You watch a lot of Argentine football?
He was a number 10 for River Plate, it was at Roma where he was originally moved to the LW in his first season where he was very poor. His second season he was moved to the right and began to flourish. Totti tho still expected Lamela to take up his mantel when he quit and become a number 10 again.

This is why I like this formation up front

Soldado ------------------------ Lamb
Kane
This is the formation he played when was at Roma IIRC and personally, I think he is wasted playing so far back, he needs to be further forward, causing hell in the box.

Clearly has ability, but will we ever benefit from it? There is no doubt that we played better with Lennon yesterday than we have done with him and he didn't cover himself in glory when he came on.

I'm frustrated with him and worry that he isn't going to step up anymore than the occasional moment of brilliance.

Depends if we give him a chance to develop and grow. I mean Lennon has been with us for 9 years, also I think Lamela needs to be played a lot further forward, I think he is wasted picking the ball up from deep.

I think he's a victim of our poor recruitment policy. We didn't need a no. 10, so I'm presuming we signed him as an RW, but what we needed was wingers who play actually play wide and not inverted. I think we tried to directly replace Bale by getting another left footed goal scorer who plays off the right, but Bale's boots are too big for pretty much anyone to fill really and now (although it's only been one game), we seemingly look better balanced with someone wide right

Good points made, and maybe I have been unnecessarily harsh on Lamela. Allow me to stand corrected on many of the points you have raised. However, I still have reservations about his defensive responsibilities, and if, as the adage goes, that you attack as a team and defend as a team, I think he may find himself losing out to somebody like Lennon, who, for all his inabilities, has always got back and helped out.

I think they both have a role to play - until last week I was all for shipping Lennon out - he's proven himself now though. They actually both looked fantastic in pre-season (I know, pre-season) when playing together, with Lamela in the 10 role.

Lamela needs to reign in his style a little, he's desperate to please and can get carried away, but he has a role to play for us now and in the future. He's too talented not to, and his flexibility will prove useful for us when injuries hit.

I said in the summer that this is our best bet if playing with one up :

Lennon_______ Lamela________Eriksen

However, that was before Chadli become our top league scorer and Kane forced his way into the team.

It's a bit of a poser for Poch because it's hard to leave out Chadli at the moment. I think although Lamela has the talent, unless he starts to produce in the PL he will rightly be the one to miss out.

I said ages ago that Lamela reminded me so much of Adel Taraabt..............tons of natural ability and at times looks a top class player.
Recently,Tom Huddlestone said that Taraabt was mesmerising in training and that he was the most talented player he had seen.
However Taraabt couldn't make it here and is struggling at QPR............talent isn't enough to make it as a top player.
One crucial difference Taraabt plays for himself. He's not a team player, Lamela plays for the team.

As soon as Lamela came on the performance became chaotic. He's just not for Spurs or English football, needs to be sold as a matter of urgency.

Still not convinced he will be the player we all hope he will be, he has ability there is no doubt and he is still a kid so lets hope that he settles down and becomes the player we hoped for.

Lamela is one of the few players that seems to press, harry and yet never seem to force a mistake and instead usually gives away a free kick. That's not smart pressing, that's running abaaat a bit.
