Did really well today especially in the1st half. Looked to be enjoying playing with Walker.

Stayed wide also which was a nice change apart from his lack of right foot abviously when given the chance to cross a couple of times

Completely agree with you i think there was one time he did go to the byline where he completely flummoxed the full back in the box and put the ball across and somehow noone managed to get a foot on it.

He played very well yesterday

He scored a great goal

He's had a lot of factors against him since signing for us, huge pressure from the size of his fee and therefore expectations, adjusting to another league/culture/language at a young age (even though he's already done so in Italy), playing in a disjointed under performing team, injuries holding him back etc

Hopefully yesterday's performance and goal is the type of performance that shows he's beginning to put things together, and indeed will give him confidence to help build on this performance and go from strength to strength

It's important for him to do something similar against Leicester, he should be able to look good again against them.

We need to keep some context, it was only Burnley at home and their left back really put very little pressure on him and before we can be satisfied that he's finally turned the corner we need to see him doing things like that more consistently and against stronger opposition but at least it is something to encourage the fans (as well as Lamlea himself) and give us belief that he's about to produce what we need from him

If he starts playing like he did yesterday on a consistent basis and starts scoring and assisting regularly in the league it will be a massive boost for the team and as I said yesterday probably better than any new signing we can hope for in Jan

Lamela played well he has good attributes ie works hard off the ball, dribble well, has a great left foot.

Things he needs to improve on, using his right foot, being more consistant with he's performances, simplifying he's game.

I love Lamela.

There are genuine criticisms that you can aim towards him from throughout this season, and there are also positives.

But quite simply some of the short sightedness and vitriol aimed at him so early on is mind numbingly ridiculous.

For anyone who was still arguing that he has no ability, that he's a charlatan imposter, that his attitude is poor and that he doesnt work hard or care he has now shown that he has got world class ability in his locker.

It of course needs to be harnessed consistently, but after showing what he is capable of again I hope some of you have a renewed patience to allow him to show how good he can be.

As I said he did very well yesterday BUT

Just to piss on the parade a little. We were playing Burnley. When he puts in a performance like that against a much better side then we can really start to unwrap the street bunting

Psml, he had a reasonably good 45 minutes and all of a sudden he is bordering on being the second coming ..... you might want to wait until he does it consistently over half a dozen games of so before you can even start to determine whether he is a 'charlatan' or not.
I guess on the positive side at least he has more to credit now than 10 mins against the Moldovan champions in a year and a half.

lol scraping the barrel if you have to claim a Kane deflected free kick as a Lamela spurs career highlight, sort of proves my point

Why can't you just be pleased that he played well? What are you getting out of constantly trying to find negatives with a young promising player of ours?

He played well for 45mins and deserves credit for that but I refuse to blow sunshine up the arse of a player who has contributed next to nothing for 18 months ... until he has earned it and he quite simply hasn't earned it yet.
Will be more than happy to eat humble pie in a years time after a season of consistently good performances against all types of opposition but quite frankly I doubt it sincerely that this will be the case.

Far, far better English than I was expecting from him. That will definitely make things easier for him.

Delighted for him yesterday, he was excellent and having Walker back is definitely helping, creating more space for him.

Undoubtedly a good performance yesterday, but needs to play like that on a regular basis if he is going to get anywhere near justifying his price tag. I hope it starts to click for him now, because if he replicates that we have a good player on our hands.

Not after one showing. In the context of his Spurs career to date, I still don't think there's many fans of other clubs that would look at him and say "yep, Lamela has been successful".

That's the general football fan short-sightedness of course, but we do it with other club's players all the time if they have only had flashes of excellence.

I put Willian firmly in that category as an example and Juan Mata's United career to date.

This could be the archetypal naysayer post, unsurprising considering the author. Anyone else looking to structure such a post please do as follows:

1. Hyperbole, especially effective if your negative hyperbole references positive hyperbole about a player. Hyperbole squared makes this a powerful weapon.

2. Caveat, despite the passionate argument against a player/manager etc. The caveat allows you to guard against accusations of not actually being 'a fan' by saying 'you really hope he/she/it comes good/proves you wrong.'

3. Conclusion/'told you so', undermine the caveat by stating although you would be oh so very pleased to be proved wrong, you know you won't be. Imply that the 'I told you so' moment is the real gratification you will be getting from the post. File for future reference just in case.
