If the question is should we try to sign him (rather than whether the story's true/fabrication etc., whether he would come to WHL, whether we can afford his wages) then yes I think people are too quick to dismiss the idea. Agree he's very similar to what we have but he's head and shoulders above Livermore ATM and if not arguably better than Scotty then certainly more likely to maintain the level of performance through the whole season. Diarra is also in the final year of his contract and, as such, should be available for a knock-down fee, whether in cash or as a make-weight in a Modric deal.

I think Parker tailed off towards the end of last season, has lost 1/4 yard and realistically it's downhill from here (he is 32 in 3 months). I'm not suggesting selling him - he's still a top player and a great influence and we wouldn't get nearly enough money for him to justify it. A better idea would be to send Livermore out on loan to a Prem club and let him get a full season under his belt. He's still young and he's done well but I haven't (yet) seen anything to convince me that he'll amount to much more than mid-table prem class. It goes without saying that we'd also want to offload Jenas. In Diarra, we'd have another international/near world class DM, meaning excellent injury cover and we could even go to ManC/ManU etc. and know that we can play 4231 and replace one of our players after 60 mins without any drop in performance. As somebody said, Sandro and Diarra would be a some wall. He's also incredibly comfortable on the ball for a DM and would slot in to the AVB passing game.

not for me, I'd sooner look for a younger more hungry version and want to see Sandro get more game time as he is a more complete midfielder than parker and Diarra and Diarra would be on big wages I'd have thought.

Would rather poach Song, myself.
I guess there's a thread in all this:

If you could only take one player off the gooner roster, who would you want Spurs to get? :ROFLMAO:

Like Spurs would want any of them.... would they?

You should start on the gen football forum maybe. They have a couple of real gems still. Anyways, not hugely keen on Diarra. Didn't realise he was quite that old either - hardly over the hill etc and just coming up to what should be his peak but I think if this was going to happen it would have by now I think. 5 yrs of constant links is overkill at this point.

Sandro is just about to establish himself. Super Scotty is still a great option. Is Diarra dynamic enough? Been so long since I've seen him play I can't remember if he's a threat going forward.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but am I correct in saying that Sandro (Olympics) and Parker (injured) will be missing for the 1st 2/3 games of the season?

If so, signing Diarra makes sense.

Why? Olympics finish before the season starts. Sandro will probably play less games in the Olympics than we will preseason. Don't see why he should miss any games. Maybe 1. Don't think we need to sign a player for 1 game.

what about THudd? other than sparring with andy gray, is he up and about? there is Livermore on the books as well,... and others if we're just looking at 1 game...

Just 1 game, oh cool - that's good news.

No Sandro or Parker against Tiote and Cabaye is a tad bit scary.

LOL.. Will a window ever pass without us being linked to him?

He's gotta be one of the most linked players over the last few seasons for us. :)

I love Parker... but imagine Sandro and Diarra as our two ball playing, defensive midfielders at the base of a diamond. *drools*

This lad is class. You don't play at Madrid. And he has played a lot of minutes, if you are not top quality, if we had the chance and wages were except able then he would be a very good signing.
