Why is he so in demand? Has anyone seen him play? His goals scoring record isn't that great in the Belgian league, 12 in 29 last season and 6 in 17 this season.

' Depoitre’s style has been compared to that of Christian Benteke in his homeland and six goals, and impressive performances in the Champions League, already this season have alerted numerous scouts.'

I'd guess his price (variously £7m, £14m due to contract situation) is a big part of it, so lots window shopping to see whether he'd fit their style of striker as its widely rumoured that he will move - and the near certainty of him definitely moving is a big attraction too.

Does he fit Spurs profile of a striker - Belgian big tick, style of play - no if its true he's like Benteke

Gent qualify for Champions League knock out. That might complicate a January deal for Depoitre.

Not really, it's not as if they're really going to progress that far with or without him.

Goals from Depoitre ("he's available") and Milicevic saw Gent through to knockout stages.

Historic win for Gent to reach knockout stage. First Belgian club to do this since new format in 2003-04. Superb.

Fantastic result for Gent - but they will nor progress far - possible clubs in next round include Real, Wolfsburg, Man City, Atletico, Barca, Bayern and Chelsea.

Only question is whether we want him - and how much. IMO he's not top of our desired strikers, but if he comes, great we'll find a way to maximise his potential for Spurs

All our Belgian players came from Holland rather than Belgium bar Dembele who did play the bulk of his Pre-Prem career in Holland. Not to sure how well a 27 year who's played his entire career in domestic league will adapt to the EPL.

Curiously Belgium's recent elevation in FIFA rankings has been based solely on foreign based players, virtually none of the Belgium team were developed in the domestic league, so its not just our Belgian players who have come from Holland

Gent have just bought Peter Olayinka so I guess that gives a clear indication that Depoitre is leaving

When this guy and his teammate Moses Simon were linked about ~2 months ago (right around our away Anderlecht game) I started taking in some Gent games. I have seen 5/6 of their CL games and some Jupiler league games. From this limited knowledge I can say that this guy has more in his locker than Benteke. Not saying that he will be more effective than Benteke but rather he has a broader skillset. He is not just a pure #9.

He can carry the ball and properly pass it. Dribbling similar to Kane but not Kane's range of passing. Bigger than Harry, faster and stronger as well. He will be a pain for most CBs in the PL. Would not supplant Harry when in-form but will definitely keep him on his toes. I think he would be a nice addition as he seems to have the toolset required of a CF in Poch's setup. The one reservation I would have is workrate. Not his movement for the ball but rather his effort in the press. At 14M it might be a stretch but at the 7-8M previously mentioned I would snap him up.

*Gent not Genk. Other than that very informative. I have seen him a few times in CL and my assessment is in line with yours.

Indeed, the buffalos. I guess I am not entirely comfortable writing it that way. I'm use to Ghent.

Glad to see that my assessment wasn't entirely pulled from my nether-regions. If Levy can do his magic, obviously assuming mitchell and poch are onboard, then I see this one being a reasonable transfer. Another person I would more accurately compare him to is Graziano Pelle; less flamboyantly skilled but more athletically gifted. What do you think of that comparison?

Exactly who I was comparing him too. Like Pelle, for a big guy he does get about. That combined with the fact that Poch played with Lambert and Osvaldo as his #9's and I can see this being a serious candidate for signing. He would occupy defenders and create space for others. Don't see it as far-fetched to think Kane can play off of him as well. Would also give our wide men reasons to cross the ball more if/when the opportunity arrives, not that Kane is any slouch in the air (right Scum? :ROFLMAO:)
