Yep, much, and I mean MUCH better compliment to Romero, not saying Skriniar is bad, if anything he was a bit better than De Vrij last season, but he’s redundant with Romero’s style. Not unplayable with Romero, and he has age on his side as compared to De Vrij, but De Vrij as a ball handler and sweeper is much more ideal next to Romero.

A cat to Romero's dog.

Can't see this happening. Feels like another Dybala situation.

What's the connection that makes this similar to Dybala? I'm not seeing any obvious parallels between the two.

I understood that the Dybala deal was difficult due to wages and image rights. Would these be concerns with regard to Martinez also?

I just have a feeling this is to get Fiorentina to accept our offer, I will say tho, wouldn't be mad at Martinez

It’s weird I’ve never heard of the terms til recently, but yeah, 100% a great compliment to Romero. Thankfully Romero can do a bit of a cat’s job too, that’s what makes him so special and great, but the standout qualities of his aggression and excellence in duels means a second player similar to him in Skriniar might not be the best idea. Just like if we got Skriniar first I wouldn’t have been as strong of an advocate for Romero.

oh you haven't heard? Valhalovic, Martinez, Kounde and Tomoyaso all sold their naming rights when they were young to a stand up agency called star agency and there is no way they would ever get in the way of any transfer or extort the player for money ?

I can't believe people think we would leak this to get Fiorentina to accept a move for Vlahovic. You wouldn't leak a move for a player of a higher calibre. That would be ridiculous.

Plays in Italy, big name, Argentinian. Dunno if that was the point of the OP but they are parallels

Also, fee agreed, transfer talk comes out of nowhere. It rapidly progresses, and then BAM. It is off before it even started. Just feels like we have been here before and reminds me of the Dybala situation. It was just a throwaway comment based on gut feeling, nothing particularly deep about it. (y)

The thing with this is that a lot may come out from Inter to try and save face or from Martinez's agent to show that he's not pushing for a move but from the sounds of things, Inter may not be in a position to reject such a bid. He's in the last year of his contract too isn't he?

Dybala was more about image rights or whatever. I actually think we would have got him otherwise. Although we did have CL football at the time.

Lautaro’s agent making a point to say that they’re not gonna fight Inter for a sale whilst contract extension talks grind to a halt… not saying we’ll defo get him but that stinks of posturing to the Inter fans so it looks less like he’s jumping ship rather than being pushed

In the unlikely event this was to happen, it’d be fantastic news for GLC in particular. They link up really well for Argentina and I think this would make it even more likely he has a break out season ahead of him.

The obvious parallel is we get linked with top class players and end up with "deal off" in the end. We all know it happens every season, but we still get fired up when linked. Every transfer concerning Spurs, there are some "difficulties" and his image right would not be any problems for any other club than Spurs or maybe Arsenal in the top 6.

Anyway Chelsea probably got whiff that we were in for Martinez, and then they offer 100 mill for Lukaku to a cash starved Inter, basically overpaying 20 mill just because they needed to outbid what we would do for Martinez to make them sell to Chelsea instead of us.

2 years left but underpaid (£50k from memory) and Inter haven’t been able to afford to give him a big rise thus far.

I think the player is probably on the fence and happy to stay or leave, but doesn’t want to take flak for it.
I imagine Inter would rather sell squad players to raise funds like everyone else, but running out of time.

Think perhaps the Messi situation is focusing minds for clubs across Europe. 3 weeks to raise funds and then have to survive with whatever you have.
