hmmm, im not so sure.

You ideally want to get your top picks. And if you cant, then dont settle for third rate options. Time will tell if they made the right call but of the season enda without the title and Trossard isnt a success, theyll need to go back in and get better alternatives but may be 20m down on doing that.

I dont know how their finances are though.

For us, im glad we have missed out IF that means we are wanting to spend bigger on others.

Too many times weve opted for an opportunistic buy that has proven to be a bad choice and hurt us in the long run.
Such a big if though.
Trossard is better than nothing (which is what we currently have to rotate with son)

In fairness, we have Perisic, Richarlison and Gil if they can stay fit and Conte actually wanted to try to not start him.

Oh great
So we either have weaken another position (lwb) or play a young prospect when richarlison (a cf) is unavailable.
A proper embarrassment of riches

Looks like they are already laying the foundations

so.... if he is correct, we really tried our luck with 12M. :D

so in the end it was 21M + 6M add ons.

Brighton are lucky Arse was a tad desperate.

Surely this is the sort of opportunistic transfer that Levy has been taking pelters for, so I'm not really sure why people are upset.

I personally hope we don't spend another penny on any other position until we sort our defence out.

5 points game in hand desperate

this is the thing, they’re top 5 points clear with a game in hand, AND STILL strengthening. Sure he probablt wont start much for them. But if he gets just one goal for them that equates to a win and seals the premier league. Irs a bargain. It’s a SQUAD game, and as we know, especially this season. You need a big squad!

we’ve ridiculed them lot for far too long, at least they back their manager - see a target and go get them! Even if it seems to be overpriced!

we sit here dicking about with porro, trying to get a zaniolo loan over the line and then these lot pop up and have a player signed within 2-3 days?
It’s not the player they’re signing for me. It’s the way they’ve gone about it.
that’s the way a football club works!

If we were in arsenal's position there is absolutely zero chance we'd be investing in the team. Levy would be spaffing his pants at the money we'd get and might bring Ryan Nelson on loan for the season.

He’s good enough for the likely title winners, but not good enough for us. Makes sense.

I’m not jealous that they’re signing Trossard - I don’t really think he was what we needed.

I’m extremely jealous that they have decided to spend from a position of strength, to try to capitalize on their position - I didn’t really think Kroenke had it in him, and I can only hope that whoever our owner is will have the same chutzpah the next time we are in that situation.

Where has the Optimistic rating gone when you need it?

Imagine the meltdown if we, while winning the league with an injured striker allergic to scoring and understudied by an almost identical junior and you sign a bench player to sit behind your best left winger.

I obviously pray they find a way to lose the league, and if they do, I will point gleefully to this signing.

I have compared stats of Trossard 22-23 PL vs Son 21-22 PL vs Kane 22-23 PL : so basically against Kane' best season and Son's best season

Some of the forward passing & shot conversion stats are just brilliant from Trossard point of view
View attachment 121072
Key stats :
  1. Trossard Progressive passing is so much better than Kane, Son or Kulu
  2. His completed passes in final third is more than Kane let alone Son. Infact, if we look at stats final third passes from outside to within 6 yard box, every area he does far better
  3. His completed passes in penalty box area is more than Kane and almost double Son
  4. His shots on target is on par with this season Kane but Son is better in last season
  5. His shots per 90min is better than last season Son and slightly below this season Kane.
For me, its quite clear he is going to be a great creative player & someone who is going to contribute to goals & assist and make the difference in final third

This view probably matches the eye test as well - everytime I have seen in PL, he is Brighton's best creative player. I think he has all attributes to translate into better numbers if he joins us

Some of the comments guys - jeez. The guy is a good player, you do not need 25 world class players in your squad, you need players to complement each other, operating in a system, that brings out the best. Simple.

I think for 27m he is an astute purchase. Not a bargain but one that you bring in to top up your squad and give that extra push where you really need.

Not too impressed with the way his camp handled the desire to leave Brighton. So I guess he suits the scum perfectly with regards to his attitude. Anyway, I'm not keen on getting him. No big loss in my own reckoning.

Maybe he'd have done well here.

Or maybe he'd turn to shit like most players we sign and then we'd be unable to shift him out for the length of his contract.

We'll never know.

Tbh that sounds exactly like how I imagine we operate.
In this case, I never got the feeling that we really wanted Trossard unless it was a cut-price deal, so that would be fine. Unfortunately it feels like we also operate that way for the players we are desperate for.
