HARRY REDKNAPP will squeeze as many games as possible out of crocked skipper Ledley King because he is so vital to Spurs.

Boss Redknapp — aware his side has not won without King this season — said: “Ledley has a left knee problem.

"He can’t have any more operations as there is no cartilage left — it’s bone on bone.

“But if you get 20 games a year out of him, it’s the 20 games you’ve got a better chance of winning than the 20 when he’s out.

“He is so important. And he’s a great lad. He deserves to be looked after.”

I remember a thread on here about somebody who spoke to a 'ITK physio' who described the injury as exactly this. He was ridiculed at the time but looks like it might have been accurate. It looks like they have given up trying to cure it now and are just going to manage it...

Tim Sherwood also said on the Chappers Premier League Podcast this week that if they could get 1 game a week for the next 2 seasons out of him they would be happy... Such a shame because he is, imo, one of the best of all time.

Well, it's about time someone at the club 'fessed up.

It's been speculated for a long, long time that this has been the problem—the dubious 'ITK physio' story was nothing new.

Well Paul McGrath played on til he was 35, and he was a frigging alchy...You never know someone might invent an artificial cartilidge transplant in the next few years!!

Yes we are better off for the 20 or so games you can get out of him, but it does little for stability. You have to question what is best for the club...to keep a half fit King around and covering him for the games he can't play or bringing in a decent replacement who can go on to be our first choice centre back and build a settled defensive unit.

Probably helped with the pain

Wasn't this the type of injury that ended Van Basten's career? I'm sure I recall a Milan fan offering to donote his own cartilidge to prelong his playing days (Van Basten declined)

Could we see a new centre back coming then either january or the summer, Sherwoods comment mentioned the next 2 years, could that mean Ledders could retire early?

i cant beleive he still manages to play if there is no cartliage left. So unlucky for the guy.. I've got a slight problem with my right knee cartilage and at times when i'm walking out of nowhere i feel a twinge and its mad how it can you stop you in your tracks wheil walking, letalone playing profesh football.

I don't think it's worth risking his ability to walk in the future.

mine does that. I have torn my meniscus and broken/roughened cartiliage as a result of chrondromalacia caused by runners knee. Sometimes they lock up, give way and swell up a lot.

Van Basten's ankle was butchered both by Serie A defenders and surgeons who messed up one of his operations...

There seems to have been a concerted effort over the last few weeks to put more and more details of Ledley's injury into the public domain. This wories me as I get the feeling they are doing it in order to prepare the fans for his inevitable retirement... I know Tim has mentioned 2 seasons but I wouldn't be suprised if this was his final season.

As for Paul Mcgrath, I'm not sure he was playing without a cartilage, i thought it was more of a tendonitis (sp) injury?

It is fucking agony sometimes. I dont know how ledley does it.

Well he probably has some very strong pain killers injected before matches...

Real tragedy here - play every game as if it's your last because you just never know what the future holds. Best wishes Ledders -- COYS!!!

Ahh the old osgood bump! told when I was 11 that it'd be gone by the time I was 15. Still causing me trouble at 23 & I have to ice it after every game of football or every run.
