apologies if there's already a thread - if so please close this one

so back to the football and a massive game

the FA Cup is our only chance of silverware, and providing we can avoid chelsea in the draw a completely realistic one (unless Gomes gets injured/suspended - but I've said enough about that elsewhere)

what particularly interests me is who will be on the bench?

if kaboul and walker are cup-tied and king isn't available - all ifs I'm not sure about, then i make it we'll have

alnwick jj pav EG niko rose and I can't think of anyone else - we look short on defenders

I'm probably missing someone out and maybe king will be on the bench, even if not ready for three games in 8 days or whatever the situ is

Gomes

Corluka....Dawson....Bassong....Bale

Bentley....Palacios....Huddlestone....Modric

Pavlyuchenko....Defoe

Subs: Alnwick, King, Kranjcar, Jenas, Gudjohnsen, Rose, Crouch

The key for me is the centre midfield. With our first choice central midfielders i think we have a real chance. I'd also go for the 2 best finishers up front in this one.

Good shout to have Pav starting, they seemed to deal quite well with Crouch last time out despite him getting a goal, his aerial threat wasn't as lethal as I expected it to be.

Pav tho would be a totally different and somewhat unknown quantity for them to deal with.

All in all, I genuinely get the feeling we're gonna get beat tomorrow, hopefully I'm wrong but it just see it happening

if we were at home I would definitely want Pav involved from the start, but away from home without Lennon we don't have an 'out' ball without Crouch. For that reason I would stick with Crouch and save Pav for Villa at home. The rest of the team I wouldn't argue with.

One thing about Pav though is that he does well working the channels (when he puts the effort in). So in a way, he does offer an out ball. I think Leeds will cope well with balls upto Crouch. Not necessarily with the first ball, but the 2nd ball. But i think they'll struggle more with Pav, because he can open more space.

Have to go with the same 11 as Birmingham, but with Bassong for King-as soon as we got a proper centre mid on against them, they were absolutely rubbish-with Palacios, Hudddlestone, Bale and Modric in their correct positions, we should be absolutely fine.

I agree with this. They changed tack during the first game and pretty much gave up challenging Crouch for the first ball but made sure they were picking up the second.

Pav did not train yesterday.

Cant see him being fit. It will be Defoe and Crouch up top as our only fit strikers.

I'd play a reserve side and keep everyone fresh for the weekend.

This is partly because I'm worried we'll lose and playing a weak team softens the blow and also because we could really do with a good result in the league.
