I wouldn't get too mad at Dembele. He's the only one who looks like he is capable of doing something with the ball today. The others are just passing it 5 yards backwards or sideways.
Dembele has been one of the few to try and make something happen.

I don't know many people who think we're the 5th best team in the league.

6th-7th is par, given our transfer and wage budget.

Plenty of people here were saying how they thought we were better than Liverpool. How their buys won't mesh and how our team finished 5th last season, we've lost nobody, how all our young players will improve, and how we properly sorted our defense with two squad players and Alderweireld.

Average manager and average players. We need to sign quality, not just prospects.

That was worse than a pre-season game. No intent. No ideas. No confidence.

This really is very reminiscent of AVB's second season when we looked like we could play for a decade without creating anything.

I can imagine Pochettino's motivational team talks are about as effective as this:

What is worrying at the moment is that we have AVB's attack and Sherwood's defence

What I don't like is the two central midfielders constantly dropping in and around the centre backs and taking the ball off them. We need to stop this overly cautious nature and trust the man on the ball at the back and take up positions higher up the field and hopefully then find the passes. Dropping back constantly just drags else everyone back in, stay away and take up positions higher up the pitch.
Do you believe that's been the instruction given to Mason and Dier though or just a natural occurrence in their play?

Honestly I don't blame Poch for this boring football, but I do think he needs to create a different style for when we're up against buses like this.
I do. He's shoe horned these players into a formation none of them are suited for in every fucking game he's managed for us besides 4. Those 4 were the best this team has ever played under him. Then he dropped 2 players for Townsend and Chadli nd went right back to his beloved 4231. He's highly inflexible, doesnt have plan b's, and waits wayyy to long to change things. So while Levy has left us short in many areas, as per usual, we could at least have a manager who fits teams around what he has rather than shoehorning what he has into someone they dont suit. Sadly, we dont.

This. Absolutely this.
