Every time I see this guy he impresses and today he layed through a couple of incisive passes .

Spurs lack that critical mass of winners and there is no doubt about it - Leighton Baines is a winner .

How on earth is he still at Everton ?

Is it a boyhood club thing ? Does his other half like it in Liverpool ?

Great going forward I agree but he is suspect in defence on occasion, ask any Toffee. They love him but has been caught out on many occasions.

Brilliant set piece taker and a really good left back, Should be ahead of Cole in the England squad IMO.

Benni is a very good player indeed and a real character .

My feeling is Baines is more of a winner .

Perhaps that is the point , if you want to compete with the best you have to be looking to replace very good players with even better ones .

Baines must have been approached by all the big English sides and most of the big European sides but something has kept him up in Liverpool .

baines is a better full back than ekotto. end of.

for me this was never an issue. he has more hunger more desire and isnt half as lazy as ekotto. he is a 7/8 out of 10 every single time type player. ekotto imo has put in alot of 1 or 2 out of 10 games in his time.

all english players have more hunger, desire, winning mentality etc. that's why the national team does so well.

Baines is a winner eh? He's talented for sure but was an incredibly shy child, didn't think he was good enough to play in the prem when promoted with Wigan and wondered which team would sign him in the championship and gets homesick if he's away for more than a day it seems.

Besides, he's a local lad to Liverpool and maybe he has been approached by the "big clubs". He's still in Liverpool isn't he.

Sounds likes a fearless leader born to win to me.

Not that I can see us going for him, but what sort of contract is he on?

LOL at him being better than BAE.

He plays for Everton for a reason.

No way should he be ahead of A Cole for England.

He got torn a new one by Lennon only in January. People do have short memories...

Just my tuppence but I'd have to disagree with most of that. I'd have him ahead of Ekotto (not that I don't love BAE) and I'd have him ahead of Cole for England as well. Cole isn't nearly as good as he used to be. He's regressed considerably of late.

lol. This place never fails to amaze me.

I wont be super pissed off if we signed him even as a squad player - let alone replace BAE with him.

BAE gives so much to the team, yes he has the occasional mare but without him we a a much weakened team. We are at our best with two wingers, and the two fullbacks overlapping them - thats how we tear teams to pieces, baines would totally nullify any of that threat.

So much of a winner that he dropped out of the world cup squad for being homesick!!
