It's about time Lennon got in the squad...can't believe England turned their nose up at him.

I think only Defoe will see some minutes on the pitch, which is good for us I guess. Although watch out for Shawcross injuring some team mates in training.

None of these selections are a "joke" really, they just reflect the standard of english football.

Milner is versatile... very average, but versatile.
This is a squad we are talking about. What is tragic is when Milner starts for example on the RW when someone like Lennon is available!

Frankly I am not bothered about Defoe and Lennon playing fro England. I think up front there are better options and I am not sure England set-up suits Lennon and neither gain that much out of it.

I like Walker being there and hope Caulker makes it too as it shows that youthful players can play at Spurs and be considered for England, which is a big lure for players.

Agree in the case of the midfielders. Let's go through a list of alternatives to Lampard and Milner:

Jordan Henderson
Jake Livermore

...and I'm actually stumped, with Parker and Barry injured I genuinely can't think of anyone else. That's why Lampard and Milner are still in.

As Milner has always been used out wide for England, the alternatives to him in this squad are Johnson, Lennon, Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Ryan Bertrand can play wide left midfield too, although he's not in either squad and I don't think he's injured. Admittedly I'd still pick Milner ahead of Downing.

When was the last time Milner played consecutive games for City?

Starting or just any appearance? He played 75 minutes against Liverpool and 10 minutes against QPR.

I think Leon Osman can feel a little aggrieved to be constantly overlooked by the different England managers. But your right, other than that there's not much depth in the English game with central midfielders at the moment.

Tom Cleverley may turn out to be a fine player, but surely if he can make the squad now so can Osman.
