Tom Cleverley may turn out to be a fine player, but surely if he can make the squad now so can Osman.

I've heard of this up and coming player, some call him the New Beckham or something....from memory his second name has connotations of a sports car....no...not darren bent...something close though.

If i'm honest, i'm not bothered if none of our players get picked for England, in fact i'd prefer if they didn't as they're therefore less likely to pick up an injury. Don't get me wrong though I'm very happy for Walker, Lennon and Defoe for being picked and having 3 Spurs players in the squad says alot for our club, but I'm really not that fussed to be honest.

I think Leon Osman can feel a little aggrieved to be constantly overlooked by the different England managers. But your right, other than that there's not much depth in the English game with central midfielders at the moment.
Oh yeah that's a good shout, I actually really rate Osman. Shocking that he's never been called upon.

Starting or just any appearance? He played 75 minutes against Liverpool and 10 minutes against QPR.

Starting, he can't be on form if he doesn't play consistently.

Tom Cleverley has all the composure of a public school boy talking to girls.

In which case I don't think he's started two games in a row for them this season. Probably not for a while.

Might get derided here but it's true we're scraping the barrrell but worth mentioning Nolan & Noble and also maybe Gary Hooper, Junior Hoilett & Raheem Stirling. What about Nzonzi at Blackburn? Is he eligible to play for England?

Edit: Sorry not Blackburn but Stoke.

Apparently Shawcross was in line to be poached by Wales, which is why he's in the England squad this time, so they can give him a cap to keep him 'English'. I think he's a fairly decent defender, so it's not a terrible move in my eye - there will be plenty of tiem for Caulker and the U21s need him more.

I suppose if you're going to do that then San Marino are the team to do it against.

I know i dont want him to get injured or lose the confidence he seems to be gaining but im pleased for him, he deserves it
It might give him more confidence being selected for the England squad, especially on shooting which he seems to be terrified of doingat the moment.

Personally I'd have let him go to Wales but then I guess you do want him 'on your side' and not snapping our players in half instead..

Hoilett is Jamaican/Canadian and N'Zonzi is French.

This is what I've heard too. Might as well cap him.

If they've been here five years and have taken up UK citizenship they can play for England, as long as no other team has capped them at senior level. So N'Zonzi could probably switch, but I'm sure Hoilett would be ineligible having played for Canada would he not?! Surely he's played for them already...

Agreed. To be blunt; England's been a joke and a hindrance for a very long time now. Although, now that Terry is gone for good all I want is for tragically average players (like milner) and over the hill players (like lampard) to stop starting (better yet GONE) and I will support my country with pride. Spurs always first though as it should be.

Apparently Hoilett hasn't played for Canada yet. But he's also not eligible for England, due to the fact he had two loan spells in Germany which means he hasn't been resident in Britain for the 5 years that is required to gain citizenship (or whatever they call it)

It's so true that their is a dearth of decent central midfield players coming through for England. There's the crocked Gooner of course, and Cleverley but that's about it. Maybe we are now suffering from a decade of virtually unlimited foreign players making up Prem teams. Those English players that regularly make the first team of a reasonably high profile Prem team are virtually guaranteed a sniff of an England squad. Even our rejects like Jenas, Bentley, Bent, Crouch etc have been involved. It's a bit like being a Welsh speaking actor, guaranteed a TV job at some stage.

That pretty much sums it up for me as well, gave up on England years ago.

not an England fan, but who the fuck picks the like of Ryan Shawcross (Stoke), a head of Caulker, hes the fucking future of England and will be Captain one day
Caulker been recalled to the U21s, who have a crunch play-off to make the next European Championships.
