Unfortunately right now it wouldn't make a difference if he could cross or not. It is more like picking up smoking hot twins at a club taking them home and finding they have massive great iron pants on that are locked safer than fort knox.

He could cross like Beckham but the problem is that there is only one ball that can ever be played. We need to produce the perfect cross every time as we always ened up in the situation where we have a static striker marshalled by 2 or more players. It isn't ever going to work.

At least with his direct running he is putting the defence under pressure, he is pulling the full back out of position and hopefully creating some space for someone to try and expose. If the striker wasn't so isolated and the rest of the midfield so deep the work he is doing on the wing might be more productive, especially if Modric was in a position to bring others into the game.

Also I don't believe Lennon should really be trying to cross the ball as such. He should make the full back commit, beat him, get to the byline and fire it across the 6 yard box hard and low. If we had enough men in the box, i.e. one attacking the near post, one at the far and someone coming late it would be enough without him ever needing to cross the ball.
