Whilst there is no denying he has been an accomplished player for us, i think we also have to hand to to Pochettino as well. He didn't just dump him in the first team, he had time to acclimatise to the first team squad, get to know the players as well as how they play. I think that has played a large part of how will he has started his spurs career

Typical SC thread. What should be positive about a player, there's still some that pipe up with negativity that is not needed. I'd hate to share a pint with some of you.
Indeed!! Just look at all this shit being heaped on him ... unbelievable how people are just laying into him in this thead ...people ought to be ashamed of themselves!!!!

Kevin Wimmer has been an absolute revelation

Wimmer has really proven to be an inspired signing

He's done exactly what we all wanted from him.

What a bargain

He has been good when he has played

One thing that impresses me is his distribution out to Rose. It is always weighted perfectly, so Rose can run straight on to ball without checking back.

He's been good, thats for sure

He keeps his place when Verts comes back, he's barely put a foot wrong

The fact that we've barely missed Vertonghen, who was playing better than ever, shows how well Wimmer has done

Why change a CB pairing that's won eight and drawn one of its last 10 games?

True, indeed. I expected* him to be solid, but his composure on the ball and passing range has impressed me.

I didn't know Kevin was that quick!

Bed been better than anyone on here could have imagined

Seems like an inspired signing. He's been fantastic and we'd not be where we are without him! Great to have he and Jan battling for that spot. He'll play a big part next season when we'll be competing on many fronts again.

It's also a testament to the scouting that was done to get him in. We paid £4.3 million for him. You look at players like Otamendi (£28.5 million) and Mangala (reportedly up to £42 million) who have cost a fortune and have struggled massively. It shows that just because a player looks superior in another league that doesn't automatically make him good in the Prem, the scouting is crucially important and shows what brilliant work Paul Mitchell and his team are doing.

Wimmer was part of a strong back 4 at Koln but he wasn't being shouted about by any means. What it shows me is that we can have a LOT of confidence in every signing we bring in from here on out.

He's proven to be a brilliant signing. I also get the feeling (like with many of our players) there is more to come from him.

It's imperative in pochs system to have a left footer in the lcb position, so the dm can drop in between the cbs and they can then spread and the fbs can push up the pitch. poch must feel blessed that he has wimmer who has slotted in seamlessly and enabled us to keep our shape even with a key injury

Brilliant signing.

Says a lot about Wimmer that we have'nt missed a player of the quality of Vertonghen, who was having a fantastic season up until his injury.

show's the value of scouting.

our 'backup' CB has performed so much better than Otamedy or Mangerla at City, for fractions of the price. He'd start for them which is hilarious when you think about it. How they didn't go for Toby is beyond me know.

Doesn't carry the ball out as well as Vertonghen yet and I think still adopts a junior partner role to Toby which can lead to hesitation but these are observations not criticisms.
Once he reaches the grand old age of twentyfour or has had half a season in the Premier league he'll be even better.
Terrific player great buy and is going to be a superb servant to the club.

He's our most reliable backup centre back in a long time. We've had the likes of Fazio and Kaboul giving us nightmares the last few years. What I like about Wimmer is that he's a like for like stand in for Vertonghen. Both are left footed centre backs which I think works very well alongside Alderweireld. He's been the key to the effectiveness of both Vertonghen and Wimmer. Similar to the effect that King had on various partners alongside him.

Next season I would look at getting another defensive midfielder. That way if anything happens to Toby (or we rest him a bit more) then Dier can fill in and we'll still have a defensive midfielder to come in. Unless Bentaleb can get back on track but I just don't see the same level of protection that Dier gives us.
