So you're telling me, that since VDV came, Levy hasn't been repeatedly leaving deals as late as possible in the window, hoping for a bargain to pop up?
Funny, cause that's exactly what he's been doing without noticing that with hundreds of millions coming in from TV money, so called poor clubs can tell him to F right off when he pulls that shit.
Nope, I'm not saying that. I just think that he's done considerably more than get lucky with the VDV deal. Has his style of negotiation worked? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. But overall we seem to have gotten better so probably more yes than no. I hope that if the issue with this window was him, then he sees the problem and changes his strategy. Poch changes his strategy as the seasons go on so if Levy is as good as his reputation then maybe he will change also.

People are (rightly) missing from the site for mentioning the T word, or making speculative guesses where they shouldn't, but some of the posts in here are, quite frankly, a crying shame.

We're all supposed to support the same club, yet you'd think this was a thread that was, with some of the abuse and vitriol bring thrown around, being posted in by Spurs & Gooner supporters.

Why can't people just politely agree to disagree, rather than tear the shit out of eachother & basically lower themselves to a level much worse than any of our rivals are capable of.

Frustration is perfectly understandable, but take a breath or two before venting it towards someone who is supposed to share the exact same love as you do.

Some people are for Levy/ENIC, some are against them. None of us should be against eachother.

When was the last time he went and got a player from bucket A rather than C or D?

This is a bit harsh. I was hugely frustrated by our lack of activity in this transfer window but most years we do sign at least one top target, be it Sanchez last year, Wanyama the previous year, Son the year prior to that.

Sanchez is a decent player, but he's not A bucket now, let alone when we signed him last year.

Levy goes for attainable players and that's it. Ajax like doing business with us, so he goes to them.
I would say the last time Levy bought any A bucket players was on the Bale spending spree. Where we made money. Again.

Pretty sure 2 of the 3 "A" players that window were on release clauses too (Soldado and Lamela)
The third - Eriksen - Ajax

There are good players out there that I believe would come to Spurs, especially now, that he wouldn't go near due to their clubs, their agents, the colour of his pants etc.

What's an A bucket player?

One that is ready to walk into a first team and improve it.
One that other teams would also covet.
The first player the team (manager etc) want, not the 3rd choice alternative.
One that might require a hand in a pocket, down the back of the sofa, pillaging the savings account and a bit of sweet talking.

Previous examples being the Linekers, the Gazza's, the Klinsmans, Ginola's...

Players that are already there. Not ones to take a chance that they'll be good in a year or 5.

Ha this is interesting...

So who was more attainable that year than Sanchez that we could have realistically bought?

Bearing in mind Sanchez has started almost every game for us since we bought him, surely a Bucket B player wouldn't have got so much game time if he wasn't Poch's first choice, In fact what is your very definition of an A bucket player in relation to this particular transfer?

Also I think you're wrong in regards to the Bale spree...the main priorities that window were Willian who I believe if we would have purchased him we wouldn't have bought Lamela and David Villa was always the first choice over Soldado.

You sort of proved my point (although wasn't Eriksen back up to Willian)

We had Willian at the club to sign and still managed to F it up. Didn't his medical go on for 2 months?

Was David Villa that window, or the the one before?
Lets say it's the same, our "A" bucket player wasn't even our first choice.

It seems we rarely sign our own first choice players.
In the past, when we languished below 7th it made sense.
We are not that team any more, we should be attractive to the top stars and I genuinely believe we are.
But we're still in the club, looking at the 5/10's, the ones who could be 8's if they put more makeup on, rather than going for the best in the room.

Yeah I wasn't arguing against your point in regards to the Bale summer, just wanted to point that out so that we're on the same page (y)Pretty sure Villa was that window (2013) http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892...la-says-yes-to-tottenham-ahead-of-summer-move

Not sure who's fault it was that Willian deal was messed up, could have been player's agents, Mourinho's, circumstance etc...just seems like you're reaching here to blame Levy just to make a point when you're not necessarily clear on the facts.

In regards to our first choice players, again not entirely sure if that's purely down to Levy, I was always under the impression that player's didn't want to come because A) we didn't pay enough and B) They're not guaranteed to walk into our first eleven particularly in the last 2 seasons, not sure you can attribute our transfer strategy from five years ago to now for example because it has clearly evolved.

We've always had a problem in the past due to wages, now we've closed the gap and can pay a higher amount so going forward it will be interesting to see who we aim to bring in. All I know is that Poch has a bigger say on transfers than any other manager and it's as much down to him who we bring in as Levy's.

We signed him with a year left on his contract. Again, an attainable player, cause Levy does that well.

So your gripe with Levy is him not buying players who are difficult to get? o_O

I'm not so sure mate. At the end of the day, Dan, there's only one man signing the cheques - or not; as was the case this summer. The buck stops with Levy.

This football thing (adding "s" to a name) really pisses me off.

"Previous examples being: Lineker, Gazza, Klinsman and Ginola." is shorter and better. Where did this come from and how do we killit off?

Not a personal dig, as everybody does it now: Your Stoofs, A&Cs, TottenhamMAttSpurs, Col_Ms, Shadydans..

We've had more than a hint of ITK who have said that this is the case, people were blaming Levy for buying Sissoko for example but then it came out that Poch was the one pushing for it and Levy bnt over backwards for him.

All I'm saying is that people's anger is a little bit mis-directed here, just seems convenient to blame Daniel Levy for everything that messes up at he club, he's been responsible for a lot of shit at Spurs and has pissed me off no end but if you're going to blame him for everything then you should keep the same energy in praise, look at things objectively.

Davinson Sanchez was a very highly rated young talent when we bought him for a club record fee - there is absolutely nothing to blame Levy for in that particular transfer

Sorry mate but I've got to disagree: First, it's documented in Pochetinno's book, verbatim; from the horses mouth that Sissoko was Levy's choice. Poch's first choice that summer was Zaha, but after Levy pissed off Parrish with a low-ball offer, Zaha was off the table and Poch ACCEPTED Levy's "consolation prize". So whist Poch agreed to the signing of Sissoko, he was never his first choice, and certainly he wasn't "the one pushing for it". For me, that's just some spin that's been propagated when everyone realised that Levy had spunked £30 million on vintage dogshit in an attempt to deflect from the poor choice he'd made.
And I'm sorry mate but your second paragraph is a misdirected generic rant that has nothing to do with the post to which you're responding. At no time did I say I was "blaming Levy for everything"; I was however saying he is ultimately responsible for the failure to make a single signing this year. You stated that "it's as much down to Poch as Levy who we bring in"; I suggested it isn't about the identification of targets that's the problem, it's about paying the money to actually buy these players. Brokering the deals is not Poch's remit; he's not the one signing the cheques. That's solely Levy's role. So I promise you I'm not "blaming Daniel Levy for everything ", mate, but I do believe the blame for this shit-shower of a window rests squarely with him.
