DIMITAR BERBATOV has been ordered to forget all about a dream move to Manchester United and, instead, show some loyalty to Tottenham

Spurs' chairman Daniel Levy is adamant the Bulgarian striker will not be sold this winter — despite keen interest from United, Chelsea and Manchester City.

And he has now challenged the White Hart Lane superstar, 26, (right) to knuckle down and concentrate solely on the club that pays his wages.

A highly-placed Tottenham source said: "Daniel Levy has made it abundantly clear to everyone that Berbatov is going nowhere.

"He's looking for Dimi to accept that fact — and quickly.

Stonking

"And he's looking for a positive reaction. Dimi needs to remember that it was Spurs who gave him his first chance in the big time.

"He needs to remember that he's only 18 months into a four-year contract and that Tottenham have a two-year option after that.

"And he needs to realise that the club has just posted a stonking set of financial results.

"So Tottenham do not need to sell him anyway, not at any price.

"They are the solid facts amid all of this speculation and gossip and people would do well to remember that, especially Dimi.

"He's not for sale, he won't be sold. He's staying put right here at Tottenham. So he'd be wise to accept that situation and deal with it.

"The sooner he does that, the sooner he will realise that his best course of action is to show some loyalty to the club that gave him his big chance in the first place."

Spurs believe Berbatov's head has been turned by his agent, Emil Dantchev.

Last week Dantchev announced Berbatov would be interested in a move to a ‘big club' that matched his ambitions. And Berbatov has confessed to pals that Manchester United would be his dream destination.

But our Spurs source added: "Our ambitions as a club are exactly the same as Berbatov's ambitions. We want to win trophies, compete for the title and enjoy regular Champions League football.

"But you don't do that by selling your best players. You do that by continually building a better squad, by holding on to your best assets and adding new talent to supplement and strengthen what you already have and so enhance your chances.

"That is why Tottenham will not be selling any of their senior stars this winter.

"But Spurs will be striving to strengthen in important areas to drive the club on."

Tottenham fans fear the Bulgarian could react negatively to being denied a move and spend the rest of the season sulking.
His commitment has already been called into question this season judged on his demeanour and body language.

But Spurs are adamant that even if Berbatov continues to push for an exit into the summer, he would only be sold outside of the Premier League to a top continental club.

Linked

However, Spurs are ready to offload several players this month.

Hossam Ghaly has been linked with a loan move to struggling Derby and the club are also looking for offers for midfielder Teemu Tainio.

Defenders Paul Stalteri and Philip Ifil could also be sold along with former England Under-21 winger Wayne Routledge.

Ex-Bremen star Stalteri, 30, looks set to return to the German Bundesliga.

Routledge, 23 tomorrow, may go back to Crystal Palace and Ifil, 21, could become a regular at Southampton after his successful recent loan spell at the south coast club.

Saints boss George Burley is keen to keep the defender and admitted: "Phil did very well and we have spoken to Tottenham but not yet agreed anything."

Not sure which mod merged this article, but can I suggest he read it next time...

This is an article about Levy, his hopes and ambitions for the club, his policy on transfers and about a gamut of players.

What is more. If they'd bothered reading the Berbatov thread in transfers they'd have seen the link to this article was already posted.

In the same vein, how about a training day for the mods? We all appreciate that you do this for diddly-squat, but sometimes and frequently recently, threads have been inappropriately locked or merged.

It's annoying, especially when with a bit of care or attention it could be easily avoided.

Thanks.

So we need it in two places on the site? No. There's already way to many Berbatov threads.
