Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy should be knocking on Mauricio Pochettino's door to offer the the Argentine coach a 'huge new contract', according to Jamie Redknapp.

Spurs climbed back up to second place in the Premier League table thanks to their 2-1 win at Manchester City on Sunday and are firmly in the title race with 12 games left to play.

The north Londoners are just two points adrift of leaders Leicester and have a chance to end the club's 55-year wait for the title if their rich vein of form continues.

Pochettino's influence at White Hart Lane has proven to be a key reason behind Tottenham's rise and Redknapp is adamant the 43-year-old should be rewarded for his efforts.

"If I were Daniel Levy I would be knocking on Mauricio Pochettino's door with a huge new contract," he told the Daily Mail.

"Tottenham have had six managers in the last 10 years. Now they have one they simply have to keep."

The former Spurs midfielder is adamant Levy should secure Pochettino's long-term future as two of the club's domestic rivals are in search of a new manager and will be interested in the Argentine's services.

"This summer it looks like Chelsea and Manchester United will be looking for new managers. They would be mad not to look at Pochettino.
--------"He ticks every box an owner requires. He plays good football, gives kids a chance and --------gets his teams so fit and organised.

--------"And importantly, it's not all about him," Redknapp added.

"He proves you can still be a top boss without being arrogant."

They can 'look' all they want. :)

Maybe some people are more focused on the rest of the season, and crucial matches ahead, rather than how to line their own pocket, Redknapp Jnr...

I was going to agree
But it was Jamie not harry ;)
I'm sure harry would be on the same tack though.
It would be silly having negotiations now with so much going on anyway why on earth would you do anything to rock a steady ship ?
Wait till summer see where we finish then make it a contract worthy of that finish I'm sure it may have already crossed Levys mind that he has a natural winner on his hands and to keep him.
The redknapp mentality of just about cash is one of the reasons he ain't here no longer imo.

Unlike some Mr Redknapp, Pochettino is probably more interested in seeing the season out rather than downing tools in February because he thinks the job is done.

Edit: wrong Redknapp but I don't care as i'm still pissed about it.

His comments are about as exciting as his footballing was.

Plenty of time for contract talk one the season is over. Bloody hell he has t even completed 2 years yet. I'm sure if Poch wanted a rise he wouldn't have a problem knocking on Levys door, he doesn't need Redknapp Jr's help.

Do United and Chelsea have the patience for Poch to get it right there. And ruffle feathers with the older players

They gave avb /moyes no time at all

Wow. I see the Redknapp bile continues apace.

I take it general opinion is that Levy shouldn't offer Poch a new contract then?

Nowhere do I see him saying knock on his door right now, this second……..its being taken, largely because of the name on the article, right out of context. IMO.

But hey, don't let that stop you having your standard pop.

Jamie's right, obviously, but articles like this are muck and nonsense.

Never mind our fearless leader..

I'm pretty sure Joe Lewis' favourite human will be Poch if he delivers CL and a trophy this season.

I'm sure he will get a new contract but not till the summer. Pointless rewarding the man until we see if he's actually accomplished anything in the form of a trophy. Don't want him slackening off!

Thank the Lord for Harry Redknapp - what would we do without his wise counsel, because I'm sure it hasn't occurred to anyone at the club that Poch has surpassed expectations and might be in line for an improved deal.

God bless you Harry
