I'm sure they would. However, I can't see them being able to afford his wages and if we got rid, we would likely be looking to sell at this point. We need to keep him in my mind. The guy looks good in Poch's system.

You reckon he is on big wages? I don't. Maybe one more year showing us what he can do in the PL would suit all parties. Sensible move imo and if he does well and we still don't want then we can sell then at more than £1.5 I reckon.

Everything I had ever heard was that he was on 60k+/week (roughly 67k/week).

And he was criticised for supposedly moving for the money

Have you heard otherwise? I seem to remember at the time that it was 60k+. I just looked it up via my trusty friend Google and it has him at 3.5m/year.

Wish there was an "oh my days!!" rating! Can't believe that for a second. The German league does not pay what we do - just cannot think he is on anything like that. Well done to him if true.

Yeah, it's rather well-believed he's handsomely paid. We managed to convince a German youth captain away from Schalke, a team at the top of the Bundesliga practically assuring him perennial Champions League football. This in combination with the fact we paid close to nothing for such a player gave he and his agent considerable leverage, so I find the notion he's paid around 60k/wk quite believable.

As for my personal take, I think these links away are nothing but a continuation of last winter. It's simply people assuming our stance on the lad has remained the same and that he'll be more of a backup to Eriksen after the season he had. However, @Lufti made an excellent point a month or so ago that there is evidence Poch may have actually intentionally tried to get Holtby to Saints in January. Remember he announced the news three days before the move was officially confirmed, and you have to wonder, why else would he be privy to that information or even care?

Also, while I know they're only friendlies, as of these two games we've seen Holtby played in the position he prefers, which is not the position that would make him a direct backup to Eriksen. Nevermind what your TV's told you during the game yesterday, that was no 4-4-2; it was the 4-2-3-1 again featuring rotating attacking mids and a holding two of Holtby and Carroll.

So I very much believe Poch has plans for Holtby. The last thing an agent would be saying is that his player intends to stay if there was even a chance of him moving away as he did a month or so ago. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does this, even if he doesn't initially start.

What makes you think we would only get 1.5m for him now? That's mental. He is worth 4/5 x times that. Unless I miss read your post?

Personally, I think sending him on loan would be the worst option. If he's a player for the future, he'll miss the first and a most decisive season under the new manager. If he's not for the future, I highly doubt his value will increase. At least I don't think it increased whilst at Fulham. Sell him or invest time in him, there is no more to gain from a loan spell at a lesser club.

Obviously did misunderstand my garbled message? :) We paid £1.5m for him, so I meant to say we could expect to receive more than this? Yes i would expect more back. (y)

A well-made point, and I absolutely agree. I feel this same logic somewhat applies to Bentaleb (but in debating whether to loan him or keep him even with the reserves as long as he's present for this transitional time with Poch). But yes, I feel a loan would do him no good as at that point he would be left behind by the squad that remains with Poch and would be 24 at that point. Either play him or sell him, and I personally hope/expect it to be he'll stay.
