Apparently, Messi is only on 250k a week

Apparently he is currently on £0 per week, because his contract ended on 30th June.

We'll probably never know what he actually earned, but most media sources reported his last Barca contract as £500-550k per week after tax, which equates to roughly £1m per week pre-tax. Most La Liga salaries are negotiated and reported as the after tax amount, unlike in England - I'm guessing that shifts the risk of income tax rises onto the club...although that seems irrelevant when the players tax dodge (Messi, Modric et al).

£250k would therefore be in the right ball-park for the 50% reduction that he'd accepted to stay at Barca (but has now fallen through). That's £250k after tax though, so probably closer to £400k pre-tax...which is double Kane's salary.

For context, Bale was on circa £550-600k pre-tax, so only about 2/3 of Messi's salary.
