I've heard unreliably that this may be part of a chain that sees Connor Wickham come to us in January - possibly has even signed a pre-contract. Anyone else heard anything in this direction?

interesting, although how believeable it is I don;t know but assuming there was truth in the story.....

does anyone know anything about Wickham and if he were to be signed how close he would be to first team football with us?

IS he better than Kane as a prospect for example? would he feature at all this year with the likes of Crouch and Pav ahead of him?

Is he more likely to be signed and loaned back for now?

They are going to get experience in competitive matches for shit teams playing against other shit teams??? I'd rather keep them here with the rest so at least they can learn something from top players like VDV, King, Keane, Dawson, Huddlestone, Defoe, etc and get used to playing with the rest so when a chance for them opens up they don't look lost. Having them play for lesser teams will only downgrade their skills and wont let them go any up than the level of that team. If you don't thinks so then you haven't experienced it first hand to know how detrimental that is.

Jesus, I assume your taking the piss with that.

No, I am just trying to remember how many of the so called youngsters became regulars over the last 3-4 years. And how many players we bought during that same period?

I think this will be a good move for him. Ipswich look like they're going to have a good season, and they play good football.

How many youngsters do any teams bring through now days?

Premier league football has become very cutting edge now, the best teams (us included) have international multi million pound players in every position and another on to cover every position.

Not to mention the fact they also have funds to spend on other top class players as and when they do have spots in their team/squad to upgrade/replace.

All this means it is a near impossible task for a young talent to break in to such teams, break in and stay in anyway....as a result only the outstanding players are capable of making it.

Huddlestone is a good example of a young talent we have brought in and developed and made a first team regularly (much as Arsenal have done with Fabregas)

What are you suggesting? that the loan system stunts the developent of our youngsters and this is the reason they have failed to break in? Or could it be that we already have a top class squad and continue to add to it (VDV) as we persue the top clubs.

Face it it is very tough for a youngster to break in at a club like ours and as with all top flight clubs you are only going to see the ROoney's and Gerrards of this world making it and most youngsters will have to move on to find regular football.

You can argue that our coaching staff are failing to develolp the kids, but if thats the case the why keep them at the club instead of loaning if you don't think they are being developed well with us anyway.

In my opinion it is simply a matter that thus far we have simply not found any youngsters good enough or commited enough to take make it with us and we simply have too much quality in their way.

The loan system atleast provides them a platform to show what they can do, without loans to a lower club how are they supposed to show their worth on a competitive level?

These loans are designed for the kids to showcase themselves and prove they are ready to play with us. I think your opinions about these loans are foolish and most likely you are on a wind up.

a fair bit on newsnow with different websites including a lot of ipswich ones trying to put 2 & 2 together in terms of livermore and townsend going there so we can get wickham coming the other way. could well be way off the mark but maybe thats why hes ended up at ipswich instead of another championship club.

must be his final chance for a spurs career so best of luck to him

Doubt if this part of any Wickham deal as Keane has made it clear that he doesn't want to lose him. Wickham is going to cost a lot of money (£8m-£10m) rather than a couple of loanees. Would like to be wrong as he looks a good prospect - strong with pace. Looks a bit of a throwback to an olden day centre forward - a Bobby Smith or Joe Jordan.

the way some sites are putting is that we're loaning them the players to keep them sweet for the deal in january. he will absolutely cost any team 8m+ but it helps to have a good relationship with the selling club. keane knows hes going to lose wickham hes probably just hoping not till the end of the season to give them the best chance of getting promoted.
as i said it could well be just some people putting 2 & 2 together and getting 5 but its a plausible one though

Livermore played much better against Arsenal than Hudd did against West Ham. So why wasn't Hudd sent on loan to get some playing experience?
