I didn't watch the game tonight, but I was checking up on the score at regular intervals. Just got in and sat down to read the BBC match report and almost the first paragraph was this:

The Uruguayan returned as a second-half substitute to a rapturous reception after serving an eight-game suspension imposed by the Football Association for racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

I know the Scousers have undermined the club and themselves in this saga, but just how much wrong there is in that sentence still continues to appal me.

Have to say I'm content with a draw.

I completely agree. I can't believe the club can get away with it. Also booing Evra for an entire match because he was racially abused by their player and having a manager inciting racial hatred by condoning Suarez actions. There is something seriously wrong with that club.

Oh nearly forgot about the fan trying to blind disco with a laser pen. Classy.

No point is good IMO when you keep a clean sheet, we hardly made a chance we should be burying Liverpool there attack was awful and we didn't do enough

Really happy with the result to be honest. Liverpool are buzzing from recent cup form and the return of their dj-assaulting saviour and the racist. Considering Defoe, VDV, Sandro, Lennon, Kaboulm, our manager and even Carragher all not playing we seemed destined to lose. Even when the cat came on I thought it was a weird sign that we were going to get payback from the 4-0. Before the match I was secretly hoping it would be called off - but in the end it was Scotty Parker that rescued us and not the fog.Thought Krancjar worked really hard and that Saha showed signs that he could be useful if he keeps fit.

Not happy with the Ade performance though, everyone behind him was really putting shifts in. I don't like Bale's diving either.

You say chip on shoulder, I say a douse of realism. I don't go into these games thinking we're going to lose. But I believe and always believed there was a realistic chance of us dropping points in this period. So far, that's exactly what's happening.

We've dropped points in tough fixtures, although you could say that Liverpool dropped points tonight too being the home team. In fact all the teams below us have been dropping points more regularly in more winnable games than us. We're already on 50 points so we realistically need another 20 points to finish top 4 (historically that would get us there). That would actually mean we could drop points in 7 games (even lose 7 games) and the teams below us would need to win 11 of their remaining 14 to catch us. Not one of them has shown that kind of form.

In several matches we have allowed the gap between Ade and the rest to be too big. The absence of quicker players like Lennon and Defoe can leave him too isolated....tonight we saw that isolation and a slightly off attitude will make him ineffective. At no stage did we set up to win the game....Saha and Ade wasn't considered.....

Damn right (I think without double checking the numbers), which is why it'll be very surprising if we finish outside of the top 4 this season - would mean a near total collapse IMO considering none of the other teams are consistent enough. Still want more though - 3rd is considerably better than 4th with direct qualification and also our best ever Premiership finish. Still think we can end up in second and with an outside chance of taking the title even if the three points we lost against City make it difficult.

But we've got to show more than we did last night in the next run of games and need VDV and Lennon back as soon as possible to close the race for 4th thread by the end of March :hump:

That gap's called VDV and Kranjcar didn't fill it despite playing a good game by his standards. Don't get me wrong I've got nothing against him and wish we'd played him much more but he's nowhere near the player Rafa is and neither is Modric in the advanced midfield position to be honest.

As I said I'll take the point and get on with it but also disappointed we didn't go for it..

Agreed, it felt like the omens were stacked against us last night - loads of players missing, no manager, Suarez back, Gerrard back, their recent form, a fucking cat....

I couldn't watch the game, but I'll take the point and hope we can get back to winning ways at the weekend. We really need an atmosphere at the Lane!

I think you misunderstood the point you highlighted. I never said you have a chip on your shoulder. And I never said we would get maximum points from this run of fixtures - so I don't think I am lacking realism, and I don't think I need you to give me a dose of realism (or a douse either ). What I mean is, some SCers seem to think we are automatically going to lose against all of the big teams (most of the ones in this fixture this are below us). And that is a massive chip on the shoulder. Under Redknapp's management, we have an excellent record against Liverpool, Chelsea and The Scumbags.

I see no reason to expect to drop maximum points in our games agianst them in this run. I suppose it was possible that we would (though, by drawing with the Scousers, we haven't). But I see no reason to expect it.

And this is a point I have made several times recently: Newcastle will not finish above us (you read it here first ), and that means, for us to not finish in the top 4 (3rd or above is better, but 4th is job done), either the Goons or Liverpool are gonna have to win 5 more games than us in the next 14 (now), not quite that simple, but near it.

This is why I have been saying, for a couple of weeks, now, we should be wanting the teams above us to drop points, in order to keep our slim chance of the EPL alive.

Totally agree, we have more than acquitted ourselves against the 'Big' teams, but what I think people need to realise is, WE are a 'Big' team now too. We are seen as a scalp if someone beats us. I had to laugh when Liverpool fans booed at the end of the game last night. At no point did I expect us to lose to Liverpool in the build up, or during the game. We played poorly and drew, they didn't threaten us though. And they were at the top of their game!

Newcastle won't be near us come the end of the season. They are doing well, but they won't touch us. We'll win at the weekend as well. And Chelsea and Liverpool are not capable of putting a consistent run together. (unless it's drawing matches in Liverpool's case). I'm confident we'll come out of this run of games still in third, with a gap similar to what it is now to the teams below us, and possibly be closer to United and City.
