Livorno player collapses and dies on pitch

25 year old Piermario Morosini collapsed during a game with a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

Following Muamba's collapse, attention had been drawn to the situation for athletes in Italy, which has mandatory cardiac screening for all young people engaged in organised sport.
The charity Cardiac Risk in the Young says that the Italian measures have reduced the incidence of young sudden cardiac death in Italy by 90% in the 30 years since the screening was introduced.

And still it happens Maybe we have to look deeper (which will cost both and money) to see what the actual problem is, could it be training from a young age putting extra strain on the heart, can this be adjusted etc etc. The world of football needs to work together on this.

In the last 3 years, there's been a spate of collapses, some of them fatal. Is it a sign that something may be amiss? FIFA should be much stricter in dope testing.

More info in this BBC article and video. Terribly sad and it seems they did everything they could to revive him, to no avail. Not as lucky as Muamba.
