They really do take the micky. He was pivotal for them. Yet when an English club comes to them for a players it’s always some inflated figure.

Swap for Pau Torres then, we should only want to pay 15 million, so they are getting a bargain :sneaky:

That fee is taking a piss for a proven player for them who helped them massively to reach the CL semis and who is a starter for Argentina.
Rather keep him around then.

These foreign clubs take the piss with their outgoing prices compared to their incoming prices.

It's like they think they're buying from poundland but selling in Harrods.

They can only afford what they can afford.

There were a few links to other clubs with more money and I'd hoped a deal for a better fee was imminent. A bit disappointing that nothing above this derisory offer has materialised.

Agree this is true but then they only seem to ask for big figures when selling their players so it feels somewhat disingenuous.

If I recall, Real Betis wanted around £60m for us to buy Lo Celso outright but instead we took him on loan with an obligation to buy.
The loan set us back about £14m and then we bought him for £27m (total £41m).
Villarreal then took him on loan from us last season and they've probably paid 10-15m too.
So by that reckoning, their £15.2m bid could be in line with their valuation for an out-of-favour player, at £30m'ish.

I think Levy might take £35m for him in total.

I know it sounds simple to say but this is supply and demand.

Villareal don't have the money for a big transfer fee so they are hoping that we want rid of GLC more than they want to sign him. When the shoe is on the other foot (ie they are selling a player to us), they can very easily inflate a price and test our resolve because if we don't come in for him they know a lesser EPL team will. For example, if we don't offer 30m on a player then Newcastle/Everton/Aston Villa will and if the player is happy to move then you got yourself situation where you can push it to 35m or 40m.

I think it’s just business. When they players good enough for big clubs to want them they can sell for a high fee.

No business will sell for low amounts on the basis they can’t afford to pay much.

I can't afford a Tesla, but I wouldn't offer them 3k and a 10 year old Mondeo in PX. I'd be surprised if there isn't a bit of interest from the EPL in LoCelso at some point though.
Your last point is the problem. We were hoping for interest from clubs with more money to materialise but as far as we know this hasn’t happened.

Expecting Villarreal to spend big just because want them to or because they sell big simply isn’t how business works.

We need additional interest otherwise we’ll need to loan him out, keep him or sell for a low fee.

Would be a bit more acceptable if they hadn't gone right up to the final knockings in the CL last season (in no small part thanks to LoCelso's contribution). They can plead poverty but they're not exactly destitute.

As mentioned above this is a simple case of supply and demand. We are in desperate need to sell therefore offers will be below market value . We can hold out for a price but might lose more if the players isn't playing. we could make money back on loan deals we a view to sell.
