The thought of Liverpool fans going on SSN jabbering on about king kenny, Stevie G, Torresh & Shwarez makes me sick.

Good thing I don't watch SSN. What are the women like these days? GT? Charlotte Jackson?

what we NEED is a striker to play 15 league games to get us into the champions league next season and not just 2-4 in the champions league this season. We have 6 days to get Benzema Suarez and Diarra

You have less days left for Suarez because Ajax needs to buy a replacement. If the lowball bid of Liverpool is true this is the perfect opportunity to step in. Bid 18 - 20 mil pound and he's yours imo, pretty good price that considering Chelsea are linked with Luiz a defender for more money..

Yeah, we've been stung with Ajax before bidding too late. But this time is it not different as Van Wolfswinkel is ready to sign? Even if we did a deal at the 11th hour, Ajax could bring in RVW and turn a profit, right?

Plus, the logic above makes sense but if we bid now, surely all it will do is make Ajax think they can hold out for more money. Think about it. If it were you and Spurs said "We bid 18m", you'd have to be a chump not to say "Thanks. But I'm just going to ring that berk Comolli and see if he has anything more to offer."

I think we have to wait to limit the chance of the price being driven too high too early, albeit though we will be more desperate. Like eBay, innit?

This.

Worrying about the CL is pointless. I think we have done enough in it that we can be more than proud of our first time in it. But anyone that thinks we have a realistic chance of winning it and therefore should treat it as a priority over the league is off their rocker.

Yes, we were very successful in this tactic two and a half years ago.

Totally this... unless a player has a release clause or is near the end of their contract, you'd have to be a mug to go in too early. There are probably exceptions, good club understandings, selling club desperate to sort out replacements early etc... but imagine if City were interested!!

City to Ajax - 20m?
Then what do you do...? Start a bidding war which you know city will win regardless? (see Dzeko)

Not quite the same with Liverpool, but you don't want them driving the cost up, especially as I doubt Suarez is our only target. It sucks, but patience is key to playing the Window game effectively.

Very fair point. I think Levy is a good deal maker generally for sure, but there are times when it would definitely be more prudent to have the player for a couple of mil more. Imagine if we'd had Suarez for the whole of January, could have been worth about 7 points already potentially, translated into bucks, he could have earned us an extra 2-5 million there alone come the end of the season.
