Suarez seems pretty plausible, especially if we were trying hard for players like Bellamy and Fabiano in the summer. Ajax could use the money, he's a biggish name, and fairly expensive but within our budget, and not in such demand that the clubs that could afford him would want him over other options.

I'm not a huge fan but he should be better than our other strikers and would probably be a better purchase than Fabiano would have been at similar cost in the summer (and he's young with plenty of sell-on value).

Although not he's not the #9 we're looking for, he would be good Keane replacement and a decent stopgap until summer, and once we do get that striker he could go onto a wing or play as a poacher.

I would be ok with the move, would be an improvement on Pav and Keane and we would still have Defoe and Crouch if he is a failure.

I also get this feeling Suarez likes the big games so that could be a really good thing for Spurs as I don't see anyone being able to score in the big matches other than Crouch in the Champions League and maybe VDV but he is still an unknown when the big matches happen in my mind.

Thought Forlan carried Suarez a bit tbh.

Suaraz is too much like Defoe for my liking (though he is clearly better) - small, deceptively slow, likes needlessly blasting the ball and not proven against good defences.

You think 5' 11"/6' is small?

I think he's a good player this guy

If we can sell Keane for £7m and get him for £17m I'd go for it

I think his partnership with Forlan was a pretty good indicator that he'd link pretty well with VDV.

I honestly can't believe that Redknapp is dithering over signing Beckham instead of spending the money on Saurez.

He's no more of a gamble than Berbatov was. We paid 15m for Keane and Defoe FFS.

I honestly can't believe that you appear to think it's a matter of one or the other. And you might at least spell his name properly.

Defoe would score thousands in the Dutch league, I'm not saying Suarez isn't a good player but that league is no measuring tool for strikers. Goals there are as easy to come by as Aussie wickets.

He's proved his worth out of the Dutch league by performing in the CL and the WC.

His value has certainly come down since the world cup. I dont like his antics on the pitch, but he does have some real talent. A bit like Defoe in the sense that he blows hot and cold, plus he shoots a lot (but he does hit the target a lot too). He can also play as a wide attacker. Certainly worth looking at, and i'm sure we've been tracking him for some time. I think he's better than all our current strikers tbh.

I'm really into the "False Nine" philosophy of tactics at the moment, and with the players we already have I'm highly attracted to the fantasy of Suarez being our version of a Messi or Tevez

Plus he's ace in Football Manager.

I've hardly seen him play alas.

Dude its not like Football manager where you can put as many bids in for different players as you want, this is real life and Redknapp can only do one thing at a time

Mind i bet he doesn't watch you tube and then make his mind up

I'm not sold on the idea he's better than all of our current strikers... I'd pay no more than 12.5m for him

True (especially the Aussie wickets part), but it's more the type and quality of goals he's scored than the quantity

The guy has real ability IMO. I could well be wrong, and bluntly I don't feel I've watched enough of him to have as firm a view as I'd like, but he's got some shot on him, and a quality touch

He would be an upgrade from Keane right now but is he better than Defoe? Had Defoe played in the Eredivisie I bet he'd score loads of goals as well.
And he'll cost at least £15-17m.
But then any is a risk, even a proven EPL player.

He's got absolutely everything -

Pace, Power, Good in the air, Good technique on the ball and most importantly for a striker, a great finish.

He could be on of our most important signings ever.

Didn't he get in trouble for something naughty on the pitch recently, like biting an opponent or something?

He does seem to have a good all round game. The Tevez comparison is apt, although I don't know whether he's that good. He's much stronger and better in the air than defoe and possibly better at linkup play too.

Would still prefer a bigger striker like Llorente. But I guess if that kind of player isn't available we could be planning to replace Keane now, then replace Crouch at a later date.

He's not got pace, nor is he good in the air.

Currently serving a 7 match ban for biting a player in the neck i believe! That along with THAT handball at the WC means he's not flavour of the month in Europe at the moment so value has dropped by about £15m since the end of last season (add to the fact he's not been scoring as many). It's a difficult one to predict as the Dutch league is not as strong but it doesn't mean top players don't come through there ala VDV. Might just be worth a gamble.

Assuming he has been on our radar for a good while....

Our scouts, Harry and whoever else is involved in assessing his use to us as a striker will have seen him play international football and European football as well as in the Dutch league, so they should have a good understanding of his ability against differing levels of defenders.

Being professional assessors of footballing talents I would also expect them to be able to determine how well his style and techinque would translate into the English game (see whether the type of goals he scores and ask whether he could have score that in the EPL....his touch, strength, close control how much time he needs on the ball etc)

I have to admit I have not seen a great deal of him, I watched him in the world cup largely because we were linked to him and have to say he looked ok but nothing speical (he was very much playing second fiddle to the excellent Forlan)

I have my doubts as to how well he would play for us or how he would fit in (he doesn't appear an out and out striker to lead the line, but does seem to be able to link and this may be helped by having Modric and VDV supporting him)... but I am not a professional talent scout and I will bow to the knowledge of the likes of Mr Redknapp if he chooses to sign Suarez.
