I would hope we have a deadline as to when the Modric negotiations end. Maybe a week or two before the window closes.

I'm not totally against selling him to an English club anymore but the fee has to match the current transfer record paid for Torres.

Daily Mirror saying Joe Allen would go for £15m. Any takers? Bit high for me but I believe he's a star in the making and could fit the Modric-role pretty well in a year or so.

not sure if Joe Allen is the answer but definitely someone of his ilk is what is required to replace Modric - ball retention and passing skills a must

Certainly a cheaper alternative to Moutinho and could well be just as effective for what we are looking for in that role.

Snobbery shouldn't come into it - Allen is a good player and would be a welcome addition.

luka Modric left training after only one hour after arriving. Apparently did not get changed but just stayed in the canteen area before driving out of Spurs Lodge. Sky Sports News says.
Does anybody think Real or someone else has been given the green light to talk to him & a fee agreed?

So Real don't want to pay no more than £27.5m?

The way this is going we could well end up with him having to stay another season.

yep ...RM like to play dirty ...they unsettle players ( like they did w Ronaldo ) and make them agitate for a move...RM know full well LM only wants to join them so AVB saying the other day that 3 teams wants to sign him is irrelevant

Thought we had a good relationship with them.

As I said in another thread, playing dirty with us won't benefit them in the long run. They will be sniffing for Bale when he is on his bike. Levy don't take no shite and I imagine the man has a good memory!

Ah they love a good story don't they, even if they have to make one up.

Not that tbf I know better, but i could see this as more along the lines of:

DL/AVB: Ok Modric, you can go to Madrid or club X, no questions, as long as they offer amount Y.
LM: Ok thanks
...
Later...
DL/AVB: Sorry Luka, they are still playing hardball on price, should be sorted soon.
LM: Ok, but i don't see the point in going to US in mean time
DL/AVB: Neither do we, stay home Luka.

End.

I've never underrated him, he's a world class player.

I'll be really sorry to see him go but if he isn't staying at Tottenham with his heart in his game and the club, we have to let him go. I would be really upset if he stayed in the Premiership though, it has to be abroad.

Real madrid then will pay what we want

Luka Modric move from Spurs on hold as his old club demand sell-on fee

20 July 2012

Luka Modric’s dream move from Tottenham to Real Madrid has been put at risk because his former club, Dinamo Zagreb, are entitled to five per cent of the transfer fee.

The Croatia international is determined to leave White Hart Lane for the Bernabeu this summer but a price cannot be agreed for the player.
Standard Sport can reveal negotiations have been complicated because Modric’s old club, Dinamo Zagreb, inserted a five per cent sell-on clause when he joined Spurs for £16.6million in 2008.

It is why Tottenham are demanding close to £40m for his signature, rather than the £35m fee that has been reported.
Dinamo Zagreb president Zdravko Mamic, whose son, Mario, is one of Modric’s representatives, said: “I don’t deal with Modric, professionally speaking, but Luka is like a son to me, as well as a friend.

“Of course I want him to sign for Real because Dinamo stand to earn a lot from the transfer. We would get five per cent of the fee.”
Real Madrid have offered £27m so far and their president, Florentino Perez, is adamant they won’t go any higher.
He said: “The limit for the Modric deal is 35m euros. We will not pay any more than that for him.”

There has been speculation that Modric will refuse to travel on the club’s pre-season tour to America, where the team will play LA Galaxy, Liverpool and New York Red Bulls, to force the move through. However, as things stand, Spurs expect him to turn up with the rest of the squad when the flight leaves tomorrow.

Modric reported back for pre-season yesterday following his break after Euro 2012 but is believed to have spent just an hour training.
Standard Sport also understands that Spurs do not expect to agree personal terms with Emmanuel Adebayor in time for him to complete his move from Manchester City and make the start of the trip. A £6m fee with City has been agreed but Adebayor’s wages remain a problem.
The striker earns £170,000 a week at the Etihad Stadium and is wary of taking a significant pay-cut, with Spurs only able to offer just over £100,000 a week. However, Spurs hope that a deal will be agreed sooner rather than later so that Adebayor could fly out later in the tour.
Meanwhile, Porto defender Danilo has denied criticising Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas for visiting the team hotel of Brazil’s Olympic football team.

Villas-Boas sparked speculation he was set to bid for Hulk when he was pictured with the Porto winger on Tuesday night. However, the purpose of his visit was to meet Spurs and Brazil midfielder Sandro.

I'm sure there's a conflict of interest there. Player's agent is also former club chairman's son. Both stand to profit from a move.

Until hear the real story, this is no more than idle speculation.
Levy set the precedent last year, he refused to be dicked around by Chelsea when they started chasing Modric, and I doubt very much whether he will surrender willingly this time either. Real stating they will not go above a certain price, a figure below what Levy has set as his trigger point to deal, is hardly likely to have Levy panicking.
I cannot see any way on this earth Levy will sell Modric for anything like £27m. He'd be looking for £35m, maybe a couple of million leeway, but nothing like Real are quoteing unless that's £27.5m plus a player (a decent one at that).

As for the story over not training, could be it was first day back meet and greet only, or could be a deal is closer then we think and he has been told to stay at home to tie it up. However, if it was a tantrum as the article posted suggests, then I would be docking his wages. Divide his wage by the anount of days he is expected to train, then subtract that amount for each time he is a no show, and give it to charity, just to emphasise his petulance. He can hardly claim the club are robbing him when the money is going to good cause, that'd be some seriously bad PR for him.

I will however reserve judgement in the short term, at least until the full story comes out.
What's the worst that can happen, Real don't offer the sort of cash we are after, Levy just won't sell like last year, then Modric either sulks and finds himself not playing football, or he gets on with things and puts himself in the shop window for someone that will stump up the cash.

£27.5m is fine as long as Sahin is coming in the opposite direction on a permanent deal.
