So we've been linked with Modric

Tottenham want Luka Modric back from Real Madrid AND a world-record transfer fee to part with Gareth Bale.
Manchester United have targeted midfielder Modric as their fall-back option, with their bid to buy Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas fading.
But we understand Spurs are interested in taking the Croatian back to north London on top of whatever cash figure - which will be above the £80m Real paid Man United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009 - is agreed between the clubs.
The hard-line stance initially adopted by the White Hart Lane club's chairman, Daniel Levy, over Bale is softening as the price Real are willing to pay escalates beyond all expectations.
So far, left-back Fabio Coentrao and winger Angel Di Maria are the players Real have been prepared to offer up in addition to stacks of cash.
But Di Maria does not want to go to the Londoners, and now Modric has emerged as a surprise target.
The 27-year-old defected to Real in acrimonious circumstances last summer in a £33million deal.
But Levy has proved previously that he is willing to put the past aside.
He re-signed striker Robbie Keane in February 2009, six months after grudgingly giving in to the striker’s demand to move to Liverpool.
Spurs believe Modric may relish the chance to be part of their new-look line-up with £26million-rated Valencia striker Roberto Soldado set to shatter their transfer record and more signings in the pipeline.
Modric has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular at the Bernabeu, leading to speculation that he could quit for a return to the Premier League.
The player himself, however, responded to being linked with Chelsea last month by insisting he has no intention of leaving.
If the Spanish giants are prepared to part with him in order to land Bale, though, Modric may have no choice but to consider his options.
It all comes as Real coach Carlo Ancelotti's No.2, football legend Zinedine Zidane, continued the club’s relentless pursuit of 24-year-old Bale by vowing: “We will not stop.”
Zidane said: “We will not give up on Gareth Bale. It is normal that Tottenham want to keep him and make him sign a new contract, but it is impossible to forget a player of his quality.”
Meanwhile, Real's Spain keeper Iker Casillas added of the Welshman: “We are talking about one of the top three or four best players in Europe and it’s normal that his name is being discussed because he has all the qualities a footballer needs.
“Every transfer is controversial in its own way, for better or worse, but we are speaking about a very good, decisive player.”

Massively against the sale of Bale, however if there was no other outcome than him leaving then this is the kind of deal that I would be content with. AVB wanted him at Chelsea so would maybe soften the blow if he were to lose Bale.

Never gonna happen though.

Would be hugely surprised if he wanted to come back and continue with the chicken badge army....

but I would welcome him, if he kisses it.

As if Modric' dream at Real M. is over already now that he's starting to get more playing time. No chance. Not so keen really of having him back either, CF is much more of a priority. And with Sandro, Paulinho, Dembele, Holtby in CMF Spurs are well covered already.

I actually think Real want Bale so badly that they would be willing to do a deal involving him if that's what we're asking, especially if its true that they still owe us about half his transfer fee. Problem will be Modders himself, not a chance in hell he will want to return.

They're also very well stocked in the midfield attacking role.

Problem would be Modric. Madrid might be up for it.

Modric would be coming back with his chicken badge between his legs.

Maybe this is our way of telling Madrid to poke it.

The only way we'll sell is to include someone who would refuse to come back...

A bit like Man Utd leaking the fake Mata+£10m bid for Rooney or Villa demanding £25m up front for Benteke.

Ah right then, ok Mr. Mirror journo let me think about this...

Ancelotti is a big fan of Modric.
Modric pissed off Daniel Levy and the Spurs faithful to get his dream move.
Modric is now on substantially higher wages.
Modric doesn't fit AVB's preferred system too well.

Yup, I'll call bullshit on this one.

I agree with you however...

He is actually the perfect fit for a midfield 3.
Ball winner - Sandro
Box to box - Paulinho
Attacking - Modric

Perhaps a slight embellishment on my part and AVB is clearly a fan as well. Still a completely fabricated never gonna happen story which will most likely sell a few extra copies.

I remember an interview with Modric where he claimed he parted on good terms. Now Levy may have a different view on that, who knows, but wouldn't automatically assume there was bad blood. In the end he was made to stay another season, he did knuckle down and play well, we didn't get CL, he was allowed to go to a bigger club. Could easily have parted on good terms, and I don't think Levy would be one to turn down business deals because someone had pissed him off once upon a time.

Saying that though, no way will we get him. He's settled there now and I think despite them buying a lot of midfielders he will get a lot of minutes. Then there is the fact he probably wouldn't be interested with no CL footy, pay cut etc.

OK, 100 million pounds plus Modric. If the fans don't like him, sell to Manure for 30 million.
